what age is the best?

What age is the best to start a pup on caged coon? I have a 5 month pup and a 11 month pup that doesn't seem like they want anything to do with it. They go and sniff and walk away. I tried to use a older dog with the 11 month and the older dog went crazy over the caged coon and the pup just sat there afraid looking in the other direction? What to do?

Don't use a cage coon... Work em with a few drags... If they tree on one catch a turn and turn it loose... Don't let em see it... Best dog I ever had would not even look at a cage coon....

Cage coons are way over used and with most dogs they never need to even see one. Its one of the last things to try on a dog before you give up on them.....Usually after a pups been messed with alot and your about to give up on them.At least after 12 months old never before then. ((When I do hunt training))I start off with pups about 8-12 months old finding a fresh killed coon while on a walk in a woods. Then do drags after they show interest....I want a pup to start off using there nose first.....Cage coon if over used can really mess up a pup..You never want to do it more than 2-3 times.More than that can cause them to have to see a coon to tree it..Its the same way with drags no more than 2-3 times if they can tree it.Most dogs will never open on a drag .A lot of guys dont know that...LOL....

Make a drag an leave the hide at the base of the tree, after pup finds it play tug of war, after a few drags put the hide 3 feet up the tree so pup can reach it, play tug of war, after a few of these put the hide where he can't reach it, he will tree an learns a pup to run to catch.
