DC 50

I got mine today. I have yet to put in on a dog. I can tell you I am not very impressed with the quality of collar or the hardware of the buckle on the collar. You would think that this part of the collar would be a no brainer especially for what they cost.

I am hoping that i will be more impressed with the tracking function of the unit.

While hunting I've never lost signal with a dc50, I did hang two dc50's and one dc40 in a tree in my drive way and test the range. One d50 had the longer antenna and the other the shorter one the dc40 had the longer antenna on it. I was able to pick up the dc50 with the longest ant about a half mile further than the dc40 and the other dc50 about a quarter further than the dc40.

Each time Garmin has updated any of their astro's or collars it has been an improvement, the dc50 is as well.

DC50

I would not run out and trade my DC40 in to Spend more money on the DC50. If I was needing a new collar I would get the DC50 but not really that big of a differance. The Biggest improvment I have seen is the battery life. The DC50 is WAY better as far as that goes. You can hunt two dogs that pack well together and put a DC50 on one and a DC40 on the other...Guess What... When the DC40 drops out, The DC50 is right behind it everytime.
