My opinion is that the dog owner is so scared of loosing the dog that they refuse to hunt them. That or they know the dog will not meet expectations of someone else.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I ever had a valuable dog but I think its b.s. As valuable a dog that Top Gun is I've heard they Hunt him alot. Which says a lot to me. Means they enjoy huntin their dogs and they still getn the job done.

X2

Almost disrespectful to the dog not to hunt them. If I had some supper frek of of a coonhound that was the best that ever lived I would want to show the world.

I recall an article about Hillbilly Mac that said after winning the world hunts (UKC and PKC) he was breeding a female a day , every day , for $300 a pop.
That's $2100 per week. $9,000 per month.
Would you really take a chance on loosing that?

ok here is my opinion not that it matters but take mojo for example 2 time triple crown winner, 2 time super stakes winner, double platinum champion he has won pretty much all there is to win besides the world hunt. Now you are his owner you breeding 12-15 females a month at $500 a pop thats 6,000 to 7,500 a month when they started breeding him plain and simple that dog becomes to valuble an asset to take out and get hit by a car. i could see retirement for this hound. also mojo's owner scott engle owner another dog that was a world champion that he didn't retire and got hit by a car so if i was in his shoes i'm not going to make the same mistake twice

How do you know they aren't hunted? Some people just might not hunt Ukc or Pkc or any other registry for that matter.

Just curious how you know?

I can understand Ol Mojo and some of them dogs that has won big and breed REPRODUCE. But I can't understand calling a dog that hasn't won anything or isn't reproducing. Dogs like MOJO speak for themselves. They win and reproduce winners. Look at Ol MASON, Engle ain't scared to turn him loose. Cause he knows when he does, he's fixin to collect some moolah. Until next time, turn em loose.....

As dumb as it sounds, I've got one I almost like too well to turn loose. He's better than anything I've ever had, and he came very close to being killed in a hunt a few months ago. Got shot through the back leg and just above the left eye by an irate landowner.
I've hunted him a few times recently, and it really bugs me when that little question mark pops up on the Garmin...
They make new ones every day, and I've been through a bunch of them, but I like this one. Maybe more than I should. I hate to think about the miles and money I'd go through looking for a replacement.

Some stud owners are in hounds for the love of the sport and bettering the breed and it some are just in it to make money and consider them as a business.

I've never had a dog thats won a World hunt or anything near the caliber of some of the stud dogs mentioned but if I did own one I'd still hunt him. Hounds are my hobby not my livelyhood.

Lillys Ga Joe

Our Son has hunted Joe over the years @ B&T Days, Autumn Oaks, Winter Classic (Albany Ga) Orangeburg etc. As he has gotten older he has slowed down on hunting him in big hunts. He has been stolen off the Tree from a Hunting Club @ a UKC Club Hunt, He's been jumped & His eardrum cut deeply (UKC hunt), & Jumped @ the Tree by 3 dogs someone let run loose in the woods
(UKC Hunt) in 2012 (Cost us $1200). He's 11 now. He hunts him on our hunting club only.

I've got a female that stays in the house, goes to work with me, runs errands with me, goes to events, and is just a treat to have around.
She hunts, but only in certain spots that I feel are "safe" and if she starts heading somewhere she shouldn't, I high tail it around and catch her.
She is a valuable pal to me and one I don't want to lose prematurely.

Its not always about the Almighty Dollar.

Sometimes is the bloodline that will be lost. Sometimes its just because they mean more to some folks then they do to others.

If your really interested in a stud and the stud is worth anything you should want to be going hunting with his offspring to see his value.

If that isn't good enough for you then don't breed to the dog...seems simple enough. Don't try to run a man down because of his choice of what to do with his property. Seems everybody has an idea of what what would or wouldn't do til they are standing there holding the leash.

Not a problem

I am going to say this again, if my good female is worth hauling to your Stud dog ,don’t be so arrogant as to tell me he is too valuable to hunt, I don’t care what he has produced, cause, he wasn’t the only one in the pen when the cross was made Arrogance is a big turn off for me ..........Do what you want but before i buy you gotta show me what you got
