new born pups & other dogs

did anybody ever notice that when ever you raise a litter of pups your other dogs really get quit in the kennel for the 1st week or so.

my pup raising building is about 10 feet from the end of my kennel. my dogs are all quit in the kennel but do bark a little when i come out to feed morning & evening. but when i have new born pups they hardly bark at all. even young pups get quiter at this times.

just wondering if others have ever noticed this in their dogs.

not to jump on your tread but this is interesting. I am curious to hear some replies. i wonder if it is a smell or the sound the puppies make? maybe a recording of puppies would keep them quit all year around. if you do some experimenting keep us informed.

Leftover instinct from a time when our dogs were wild and smart enough not to attract predaters near their den.
