Score this!!!

dogs a,b,c,and d get struck and treed in that order. walking into the tree and were about fifteen feet out and the judge says handle all dogs. dog a takes off and starts tracking, the judge minuses dog a. Should dog a be minused or should they score the tree and call time out and give the handler one hour to catch his dog? Lets here what you think.

Dog A is minused, then score tree and when through scoring tree walk away and put 8 on dog A. If he opens cut to him if he does not open in 8 minutes then you can talk about calling time out if it is needed.

Donnie, they never get scored as if they stayed unless they stayed.

Did something change i remember this discussion from few years back and chucklin about elvis description about bein on back side of an obvious slick tellin judge how he couldnt catch his dog while he was tryin to get his boot on his ass and get him out there.I thought back then it was decided when judge says handle em there ya score em there.

But im easy.......lol

There was another thread about this very subject a few weeks ago. In this situation where the dog takes off and you can't get a hold of him then his tree is minused and you would start the 8 after the tree is scored.

Of course there is a difference between "can't" catch a dog when the judge says handle and "won't" catch the dog. In this situation the dog took off before the handler had the chance to handle him.

minus or scratch

Allen wrote an article I believe in Jan., explaining the implied scratch. In short, he says you use this rule when the rules says you cannot do something, but doesnt give the penalty. He goes on and list some of the things, and one of the things on the list was failure to leash dogs at tree.l

This would be an example of the difference between intentionally not handling the dog (implied scratch)and a case where the handler made an attempt but was unable to handle his dog(minus).
