Spring Cleaning Deeply Needed

I AM WELL AWARE THAT SOME WILL COME UP WITH LINES LIKE:

GROW UP
GET OVER IT
GET A BETTER HOUND

BUT AFTER TAKING SOME TIME OFF FROM COMP HUNTS AND REALLY TRYING TO GET BACK INTO THEM THIS WINTER I HAVE NOTICED A COMMON THEME . AT MANY OF OUR HUNTS GREED JEALOUSY AND JUST PLAIN OUT CHEATING IS GETTING RAMPANT . I WOULD LIKE TO SEE (US AS HUNTERS AND SPORTMEN FIRST ) ALONG WITH UKC SPEND THIS SPRING WORKING ON WAYS TO STOP ALL THE NONSENSE . HUNTERS UKC ALONG CANT STOP IT BOYCOTTING WONT STOP IT ONLY ALL OF WORKING TOGETHER "INTELLIGENTLY AND HONESTLY " CAN FIX THIS . AS LONG AS MAN HAS BEEN AROUND WANTING TO OUT DO ONE ANOTHER HAS BEEN A PROBLEM (CAIN AN ABLE) AND UNTIL WE GET BACK TO HOUNDS COMPETEING AGAINST ONE ANOTHER FOR THE LOVE OF IT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS .

ONE PERSON WITH A THOUGHT IDEA IS THOUGHT TWO WITH SAME THOUGHT IS A MOMENT

i don't competition hunt but i've gone to a few. the other men were very gracious to me because my dog was always the worst one there. i like squirrel hunting and i'm glad they don't have horns or men would be out in force trying to get some horns or the biggest horn. it's just most men want to compete and of course they look for angles.

Brother David

there ain't no fix around here,
went to NR hunting club and hunted recently and dogs stuck a coon and ended up treeing about a mile a way, my dog did'nt tree with them, she likes to tree alone, 2 dogs had the coon,1 got circled, anyway found out my dog came out on path, guide and his buddy were on an they were going to catch my dog and hide it the rest of hunt.
wish ole BILLY and Charles had caught her and hid her since they were looking for trouble, they would have found it, AND THEY COULD HAVE BARRED ME.

Maybe it's just my perception but it seems like you're always whining about getting cheated or cheating going on at comp hunts.

I've been comp hunting for 33 years and can count on one hand and have fingers left over the amount of times I've been cheated or witnessed cheating going on.

If you've got enough dog and know the rules inside out the chance of getting cheated is very small.

Do you honestly think cheating isn't at least some what of a problem in competition hunting? I read an awful lot of posts from people complaining about it. Usually when a person hears the same thing from enough different people they tend to raise an eyebrow and wonder if maybe something really is going on. I do know this........no matter how good your dog is and how well you know the rules if you're in a cast with two or three guys that want to cheat there's not a darn thing you're going to do about it except lose that cast. If there is a problem with cheating and everyone just says "get a better dog and learn the rules better" it will never get fixed.

When the guy that owns Mojo shot a coon out its my understanding he shot that coon because he was being cheated. I don't know if he was hunting Mojo or some other dog however I'd be willing to bet he had plenty of dog power and probably knew the rules pretty good but still got cheated and as a result got barred from hunting UKC hunts.

Al,

YES I acknowledge that cheating can and will happen from time time but from my experience it doesn't happen near as frequently as people claim.

MUCH of the cheating that people claim comes from those who don't know the rules themselves and don't know their dogs. A hunting judge has no more authority than any other cast member. Anyone in the cast can question a hunting judges decision and call for a vote. If not satisfied anyone can question a decision and ask the MOH to decide the outcome.

If people can't acknowledge that they got beat fair and square maybe they need to take up another hobby.

Well I can agree with you there, if you get beat fair and square and can't deal with that then it's time to think about getting out of comp hunting. I always enjoyed watch/listening to a good dog work whether its my dog or someone else's. I also have met people that will try to win at all cost even if they have to cheat. It's like most everything else I guess, it only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone.
