poem gus
The prettiest thing i ever seen,
Was a black and tan reared high on a tree.
Belly to bark no looking around,
Slobber from collar all the way to the ground.
One twenty a minute wondering how he could breathe
I counted myself so i had to believe.
He scattered the pack that left from the truck,
Some said it was skill others said it was luck.
He drifted the track with miraculous speed,
Out of pure desire to get to the tree.
He hardly ever missed when he planted his feet,
You could bet your bank roll he'd have the meat.
Hours spent together he was more than a friend,
So close to the dog it felt like a sin.
He died by accident in the year nine seven,
If coon dogs have souls i'm sure he's in heaven.
The best coon dog with out any fuss,
He was a black and tan and his name was gus.
