Alpha shuts off while hunt sometimes once a night sometimes more just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if theres a fix

Unfortunately that is one of the bugs with the ALPHA. I would suggest you call Garmin and let them know and see what they say. They are suppose be tracking all calls and getting info to the engineers.

If you hook up an external antenna or run more than a half dozen collars on some ALPHA's it gets worse.

Like BigDogLights stated they did come out with a fix through update that worked on some of them.

Just a little input on the Alpha
I am now on my 3rd unit, I've had 3 Alpha & 5 TT10
Cut-off, screen freeze & battery deplete have been the main problem with 2 of the handhelds
3 of the collars shut off at random times & 2 of those would not cut off manually if I got them back on
Updates did help temporarily, & I got Garmin Reps at Grand American, Winter Classic, & South East Walker Days to update & reset, but after a while, the problems returned
The newest one I have has not failed in any way, so I being very optomistic that I have a good one now
I think some of my problems has been user oriented, as this is the first touch screen I've used extensively
I will say that Garmin Customer Support has went above & beyond to help me with any questions or resolve any problems
I did not like the combo/shocker when I first got it, but now I like it a lot ( I learned how to use it )

David, I would like to second what you say about Garmin and their support with this and their other dog tracking products.
Down here we deer hunt with dogs and I have several groups of customers that have had issues. These guys were experienced Garmin users and yes the minor issues did cause some concerns at times but together we worked with Garmin and got to the bottom of several of the problems.
The Garmin engineers went as far as to send us out details on how to extract error codes from the units and they wanted those codes sent to them so they could look at it and duplicate the problem and get them fixed.

I will say learning how to use the product and not blame Garmin for everything is a big step in getting a system you enjoy. I will admit that when the Alpha's came out I switched to it and I had some issues. Most of them was just me learning another new system and the issues went away as I gained experience. What showed me the problem was me is when I handed my ALPHA to a teenager one night and he had never had one in his hand and was doing better with it than I was. I knew right then I had to tighten up and learn a little more about it.
