Single Registration Ukc/ Breed Assoc.

After reading several enlighting post on single registration I was just thinking is it time that UKC sets rules under its registry that who wish to single register a dog must go by . I KOW WE HAVE BREED STANDARDS ( DONT NEED THAT ANSWER ) . Each breed assoc.as of now gets to say what can and cannot be registersed and sets the boundaries . In someways that seems to me to be allowing the inmates to run the insylum . AFTER ALL WE ARE ALL CRAZY OVER DOGS OR WE WOULD NOT POST OR START THREADS . I think this would solve some of the bickering and may settle some arguments .

you want it run kinda like the country... let the government dictate whats to happen.... the breed associations try to look out for the best interest of the breed... sure it makes it hard and aggraviating to single register one but if it wasnt they would all look and hunt the same soon... if its not a purebred make sure you do your homework and are prepared to put the extra time and hassel into getting it registered or dont complain

true but in most cases we determine when we breed something and to what we breed it to.... freedom to come and go is debateable.... and yes the gov thinks they have the right to say what size pattie you have or what size soda pop.... my point is ukc has no interest in breeds other than the money.... the breed associations have a vested interest.... dont give all control to all breeds to one group of people

I would favor closing the books on single registration altogether. I see no reason for it.

It would be interesting to see some figures such as the true number of dogs single registered each year by the various breeds. I bet the number is low enough to be considered basically insignificant.

Of course you have such examples as Little Red, The B&T Rock dog, I think the Quick dog that won a World Hunt was single reg. But I have a feeling the total number single reg each year with the individual breeds is very low. Low enough that it becomes just another subject that is talked about so much by the 95% who will never do it.

Excellent point .
Still it seems to ruffle a lot of feathers when it comes up. There's been a big discussion on the Red forum lately and my problem with single registration is it all seems to boil down to honesty on some dogs to weather they can or can not be single registered .
If you know a dog is out of a registered litter but don't have the papers you can't single register but if for whatever reason you don't know you can. I think this part is UKC.
If you know the dog is a intentional crossbreed you can't but if you don't know you can . (red assoc.)
Single registry is about letting good adult dogs that have something to contribute to the breed in . Never been about pups or dogs who can't tree a coon .
Many are saying they would prefer having a honest crossbreed pedigree than a blank or dishonest one because it's easier to say "I don't know" .
Another point being made is it don't show much difference in the breeds with multiple colors but it does with the solid color dogs . To me that sounds like a really GOOD dog is about the same except for color .

When the Treeing Walkers & Blueticks separated from the English breed in the late 40's and early 1950's agreements were made dealing with single reg. of hounds allowed back into the English breed down the road. The agreements made by these breed associations need to be honored.
