How'd you do it?

How'd you train your coon dog? What's the best way that has worked for you? One of my friends recently got a female redbone and he wants to know the best way on how to train it. Any info is greatly appreciated thanks!

expose it to coon with another dog or released coon., once it wants them ,hunt it alone.
you dont train them how to run and tree, you train them what to run and tree.

I agree 100%, I train pup's using 3 steps:

1. Obedience (Teach it to COME TO YOU, to be quiet in the kennel, to lead, to load, etc.)

2. Exposure to desired game (COON)

3. Patience

You use them 3 steps and then it's up to them!!

Just hunt them, helps have a good broke dog and just try get them where they can get on a good hot coon. Seems always work for me.

Follow your dog through the woods cursing under your breath while your feet get soaked through from crossing creeks as your dog takes you on quite the run and then blows past the tree.

Do this enough until you begin to hate your dog.

Then, when the moon is at a 23 degree angle to the planet Mars on the 79th longitudinal line of the Earth--watch the switch flip and suddenly your dog has locked onto a tree and there is a coon in it.
