Urgent Prayer for our friend Tom Solberg
Hello Redbone Family,
I received a call from Dave Patzner (Tom's Son) this evening to let me know that Tom has suffered a severe stroke. He is currently in Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He has a blot clot in his brain and has a full blockage in his main artery in his neck. He is paralyzed on one side.
Dave and I will keep in touch and I will keep the board updated on progress.
So, Dave and family asks for all of your prayers and thoughts.
Thanks so much.
Pastor Mike
****Update; 9:45am****
Talked with Dave this morning. Tom will be going through a series of tests today to determine what type of therapy he qualifies for. He still cannot speak but does recognize folks and acknowledges who they are. His right side is paralyzed. He is not eating or drinking on his own at this point.
Thanks. P. Mike

Talked with Char (Tom's wife) and things are pretty much the same. No movement on the right side.
She was very thankful and appreciative of all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes from everyone.
This is an extremely tough situation and I'm sure that many folks have experienced similar situations so the continued prayer is very much needed and appreciated. Thanks again. Will update as I get information.

Dave says they will probably be moving Tom to a nursing home in a few days. There is really nothing they can do for the blood clot in his brain. He will receive therapy at the nursing home. As of now, no change in his condition.
***Update*** 12:00am
Good News: Tom had some movement and feeling on his right side during some tests. This is great improvement. He was alert today and I called his room and Char put the phone up to Tom's ear so I could talk to him. He still cannot speak but Char said it made his day and night to hear a friends voice. Let's keep praying because Tom has a long way to go but little by little and day by day there is HOPE!! Thanks for the continued prayer and thoughts. I will update more as I hear.
***Update from Dave W.*** 10 am 12/14
I called the hospital last night and talked to Char and she let me talk to Tom. He cannot speak but she held the phone to his ear for me. He probably thought it was like old times when I called because I was so windy he couldn't get a word in anyway. Once I told him he would have to put longer voice mail on his phone because it cut me off before I could get rolling. And he did.LOL! Char said he ate and Drink on his own so that was a good thing. They are going to move him to a different place and when he gets strong enough he will come back to the hospital there for theraphy. Tom still has a long way to go but like My friend Richard said a little each day. Keep the prayers coming for Tom. Dave

Dave texted and said they moved Tom to a nursing facility where he will go through therapy. Said that they had Tom standing on his feet today. Let's keep praying. Allison and I are leaving at 4am in the morning to head up to Wisconsin and visit with Tom and the family. We look forward to telling Tom how many folks are pulling for him. Thanks again for your prayers and concern.
***Update*** 11:30 am 12/18
Allison and I had the privilege of being able to visit with Tom on Sunday. It was great to see him. The facility Tom is in is a very nice facility and the staff seem to be very authentic in their care so I believe Tom is in very good hands there.
Tom has made very good progress and shows great potential for improvement. He has a long rode ahead but I was encouraged at his alertness and his expressions. What Tom has experienced is not the flu or just an infection, it has been a life changing event for him and all of the family. So, Let's keep praying and I encourage folks to send a card or note to Tom at the address that dave has posted. The family is very appreciative of all the thoughts and prayers.

We would like to thank all of Tom's friends in the coon hunting fraternity that have prayed for his speedy recovery. If you know Tom, he does not back down from any challenge that has been put in front of him, and this is going to be a challenge that I know he will end up winning with his will power and determination.
Tom has been put into a short term nursing home facility where he is getting physical and speech therapy. He has been improving rapidly over the last few days thanks to your thoughts and prayers, and his determination to get back home as soon as possible. A few of his good friends and local hunting buddies have already visited him at his new room. We appreciate it very much. Thank you again for everything you have done for Tom. May God bless you all.
His address is :
Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home
18601 Lincoln St.
Whitehall, WI 54773
Room 334
****UPDATE**** 7pm 12/20/12
Talk with Char today and received a text from Dave. Tom seems to be improving each day. He has actually shaved by himself and is beginning to take steps even though they still have to move his right leg for him. Char took their housedog "Sammy" by to see Tom. Tom smiled and enjoyed the visit with him with Sammy sitting on Tom's lap. Still Praying!!
They are in the middle of big snowstorm right now so I pray everyone in its path is able to stay warm, dry and safe.
***UPDATE*** 12/30/12
Was texting with Dave tonight and he said that Tom was able to dress himself and that with the help of a brace on his right leg and therapy, he is able to take about 15 steps. On Christmas day, his grandson cruz was there with the family and was able to get Tom to actually laugh out loud. This is only sound he as made vocally but is a great start. This is all forward progress which is awesome.
Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts.
