Breeding question

Just a little curious but say I have a female redbone that has a really good blood line but she doesn't do much on the tree and If I were to breed her with a male with a good blood line and is a hard tree dog how would the pups turn out?

Why bother breeding an inferior dog and invest the time, money, energy etc to find out???

My German Shepherd dont tree coon....should I breed him to the best female alive and expect treeing shepherds????

I wouldnt feed a dog that wouldn't tree let alone breed one...

I think youd be much happier with the results if you bred a coon dog to a coon dog...

Yes you can often times take a hard tree dog to a great track dog and make a nice cross...but taking a dog that wont tree to a great tree dog wont likely make a tree dog...

She's a really good tracking dog, like she opens up like a champ but she just won't tree as hard as I want her to. She will follow a track forever and open up the whole way she just won't tree. It was just a question I was just curious

Does she actually tree every track with a coon and stay treed?? Or does she just not finish tracks??

How old is she and how much has she been hunted??

You say she wont tree hard..then you say she just wont tree...im confused..

Alright say I do a drag with her, she will follow the track right on the dot she will tree a little bit and just leave. She's 20 months old. She trees with other dogs. I hunt her about 3-4 times a weekend

as with any cross made each and every pup gets a different mix of gene traits from the parents. if you breed a weak tree dog to a hard tree dog the pups that get the weak tree dog traits will be weak tree dogs , the ones that get the hard tree dog traits will be hard tree dogs.
breeding coondog x coondog or the best to the best will still produce a mixed bag of traits in the pups unless both parents have the same traits that made them a coondog or a best.
the more traits that match between the parents, the more pups per litter will have those same traits.

Rough and Ready

I have used the same logic you are talking about a couple times and was extremly dissapointed with the results. The rule of thumb I use is if either dog has traits or habits that I can't live with I will not mate them. Another thing that I consider is take into account the history of both the male and female. If all or most of the littermates made above average or acceptable dogs then I will do it.

With that being said, she is your dog and you can do whatever you want. I wish you the best of luck.

should probably wait til you gain more knowledge in raising and training before you start breeding.. if you dont know your own dogs strengths and weaknesses why breed it.

I don't plan on breeding her anytime soon. First off she's only 20 months old and I'm only 15 so that would be to much on my plate to handle
