astro 220 vs 320

well i think my 220 has finally started to fail, tracking a dog it is in and out, doesnt really start till about 400 to 500 yards but i reckon is the signs of internals of the antenna failing. i can move antenna around some and most time it will start back up. my question is are many people seeing the same probem with the 320 breaking the internals of the antenna? d/k whether to upgrade or just send in and get another 220.

I broke my internal by getting it to tight. Send it in and get it fixed. I think it cost me $50 or $60 to get mine fixed at the timeHere is a number for Kevin Rainwater, the same guy that builds the Boss lights. A great guy to work with.606-305-1905. I like the 220 cause I didn't see the need of switching after fooling around with my buddies.

We got the 320 with DC40 collars, and it's no better then the 220. We actually prefer the 220. Seems to me that unit picks up better for some reason, but maybe it's where I was so used to the 220, and never had any problems out of it. Others like the 320 better, idonno ours just might be a POS but if I was you I would just send it into Garmin and have them repair it, and I'm pretty sure they will send you a refurbished one.

The 320 is a bigger beast. Go to rechargables and you will never regret it.

x2. How do you fellas that keep complaining about the Garmin eating batteries use them ? Keep them in your hand with the backlight wide open? I can get a all night hunt out of one set but I keep it in the pouch and listen to my dogs for the most part. Just pull it out if I think they are getting close to a road or some area they shouldn't be. Just curious!

where i connect the antenna is not loose in my opinion but i guess it could still be the problem anybody experience it not being loose and not tracking well. i've seen on before that didnt track and antenna connector was loose.

it doesn't have to be loose to have broken antenna connection just overtightening breaks the two solid wires that garmin uses i have had a couple fixxed by my local wizard he replaces solid wire with teflon coated braided military scrap problem solved but everyone i've seen drops collars at a hundred yards if your tracklog is full it will drop in and out at 500 yards common problem seen it many times !

One more question

Have you been using your Garmin in close proximity of a Marine Band Radio?
