i got a 1yr old bluetick and im having trouble loading him in the truck he wont jump up in the back hardly you have to just bout pick him up and he wont go in the box you have to force him in it.just taking some info on how to change that.

I start some of mine with a pack of hot dogs. give him a little piece to get him started and then feed him a few in there. works for me with some and others get the electric.

brute force.after about 3 or 4 times they get the idea.if they try and bite you.get u a 3 foot broom handle stick and have a come to jesus meeting.

I use two voice commands when I start working young dogs on loading, "Load" and "Box". I pull up on the lead when they get their feet on the tailgate, and say "Load". If I have to stuff them in the box, I am also saying "Box" at the same time. Might have to smack em a little, depending on how hard headed they are, but when the dog is starting to do it easier each time, let them know that they did what you wanted them to do and that you are happy with them. Correction and positive reward, could be just you voicing your satisfaction, is the key to most training. Keep it simple for them. Hope that helps.

i ant tried neither of them yet but i will try the voice first cause if i used like a hotdog or something to get them in and outta the box when i get ready to take him hunting an get ready to load him he migh be wondering where is my hotdog ya know lol

Most dogs are easy to get to load, some may be a little harder than others, but I never had a real problem with one.
I start pups at a very young age, teaching them to jump on things, hotdogs works good. I use a show bench to get them used to being off the ground and under my control.
At 6 to 8 months, when getting ready to hunt, the tail gate is next. Holding them on the leash, I run them toward the tailgate, lift them almost of the ground as they get to the gate. Sometimes they end up hitting into the gate, but make them try again. Once, usually with your help, they are on the gate, give them a peice of hot dog. Put the rest of the hotdog in the dogbox. They will usually go right in. Do this over and over until they learn to jump without any help. Just takes time.
Works for me. But then, most of my dogs aren't real smart. Easy to trick with food. LOL

right now i just lift up on his collar to load him its either hes gonna get up there or he will get choked hes been doing good that way tho he would rather jump up there than get choked lol but ima try the hotdogs and saying commands

ok fellas im back i finally got him to jump up on the tail gate easy but thats as far as he goes he will not get in the box ive tried throwing food and a dog treat in there nothing i worked with him for 45 minutes today and could not get him in the box one time this dog is stout and very hard to handle at 1yr old lol any ideas on how to get him in the box? if not the next step for me is braking the shock collar out

Its been my experience that alot of dogs do not like to load because they rubb backs on top of door. Raise your box by putting 4x4 under it. They should arch top of doors on boxes but thats just my opinion. I agree starting them young is a big help

I have always had good luck by using a trained dog that loads good .
Most of the time the youngster will follow suit .

i agree with john i have a dog box that sits on top of my wheel wells in my toyota nad the dogs love to go into it realy makes a diff.

Get a switch tell him to load if he does not put his front feet on the tailgate pull up on his collar till they are then swat his hind legs until he jumps in the truck to get away from it I said swat not beat when he loads then praise him up what has worked for me and I have some hard headed dogs

UPDATE: he jumps in the box with easy i just started pulling up on his collar for him to jump in the box and it worked it was either jump in the box or get choked one haha so now when he goes to the truck i just grab ahold of his collar and hes in there no pulling or nothing

A plus for starting young pups on scent drags/fishnet.

I would let the pups chase the net to the tail gate. Put the net on top of the box and they would stand there treed on the bumper while I loaded them one at a time. When they are 3 months old they go in the box easy.

I also used to leave the box on the ground for the pups to play in and maybe eat some food in during the day. Gets them used to it...no fear.

Most older dogs that figure out you are going hunting learn to get in pretty quick....if they have any brains. LOL
