I don't think it will happen. It is probably some political BS from the Olympic Committee, but the sport would sure suffer if there was really nothing after college.

I'm not a big wrestling fan but with that being said its a dang shame! This sport has been around since the first olymic games.

Wrestlers love thier sport. They dont do it for the money.

I imagine it making it back for the 2020 Olympics, there is a lot of upset people out there. John Smith announced that the fight isn't over with yet. Last Olympics, 26 different countries earned medals, so it isn't like baseball, or squash, or karate that they are trying to push that only has a hand-full of countries where it is practiced.

I live in Iowa have 4 boys and a wrestling mat in the garage. We wrestle 5 days a week it is the only sport that my boys want to be in. Maybe 1 of them people from the committee could tell my boys that its not good enough to be a sport anymore. Dang little fairy tree huggers yep that's it the hippies are running things.

The olympics haven't been the same for me for along time. I was in elementary school when "the dream team" came along and proved our professionals dominance in basketball. The olympics are suppose to be about being the crowning achievement in one's athletic career. The sports like track and field, swimming, and wrestling. I was a wrestler in high school and never wrestled in college (should have but that's another topic) but that is all a competitive wrestler thinks about is the chance of one day being good enough to make the olympic team. My boy now wrestles (kindergartener) and I am saddened that if he chooses to wrestle in high school and then college that there won't be any where to go to get that ultimate "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow." Then I read yesterday the the decision to drop wrestling was highly influenced by the addition of GOLF to the olympics. I'm sorry but anything that John Daly can be a member of the elite of the sport is not olympic caliber.

I'm a wrestler in high school now this is my last year and nothing makes me fell better than getting my hand raised in front of a home crowd on a mat and I can only image what it's like to represent your home country in the olympics and now it's getting pushed out with swimming and ribbon twirling what is this country coming to

Wrestling is kind of a big thing in Iowa. Today the Governor started letskeepwrestling.com with the help of Dan Gable Terry Brands and many others. Please check it out and pass the word

Lol

I like wrestling and believe its the single toughest sport out there and for anybody that doesn't believe it go grab ahold of somebody and try to pin em for 30 sec tell me how ya feel........ That being said I never even got wrestle past grade school my school didn offer it I do now play golf in the summer and it is def not a really physically demanding sport however all them guys that compete and hit the ball so far do workout hard and if u don't believe that look and see where old Johnny D rates these days he use to be the longest not even close now pro golfers are truly amazing if u don't play u won't think so but competitive golf is a really humbling game

Being from the south I never had the chance to wrestle but I have always enjoyed watching it. Maybe they could move it from the summer to the winter Olympics. Real wrestling and the Olympics are meant to be.

maybe the IOC will compromise and allow womens' beach wrestling or mud wrestling. it'd be better than nothing.

That might be a possibility but since wrestling seasons here in the states are in the winter alot of the coaches (and participants) are going to be tied up doing other wrestling responsibilities. It's the same reason that basketball is in the summer olympics and is a winter sport. But given the choice between working out the details and losing it's olympic status I'd be willing to bet we could figure something out.
