Crunch the Numbers-Hunting Season

Well Ohio season has now come to an end and Holly & I had a great time again this year. We treed a total of 60 coon from November 10th to January 29th. I was able to get out 22 nights, I dropped Holly 19 of those 22 nights. Holly was released 69 times in those 19 nights. Holly treed 45 of the 60 coon treed, she had 18 Den trees and 6 that were absolutely slick!!

Taking into consideration tht 63 of her 69 tracks ended up on a coon or a legitimate den would make Holly's accuracy rate at 91%
If I count dens the same as slicks Holly still had a success rate of 65.2%

Would love to see the breakdown from other numbers crunchers around the country. I look forwad to hearing from you all.

Good Luck !!

Thanks Davey my friend for joining in. My calaculation on Taco comes up to 92% counting dens and 64% if you dont count dens. Thats a pretty good percentage in my neck of the woods.

Doug, Thanks you. I find it interesting to go back over the years and see which of my dogs preformed the best throughout each season. Several of my pleasure hunting buddies keep similar records as mine but maybe not to the detail that I keep. But its kinda fun for me to do and makes for great reading many years from now. LOL. Guess Im a little excentric!!

Doug I'm still keeping my eye on that female that a young friend of mine has that is out of your Blue Speck dog. He says this pup has a cannon for a mouth. This young man lives about 10 miles from me so I'll be able to watch it develop. Take Care!!!

John thanks for the compliment!! Good Luck with your young hound in the coming months.

THOSE ARE SOME GOOD NUMBERS DAVE.
LIKE YOU I ALSO KEEP UP WITH EVERY TRIP TO THE WOODS. BO HAS TREED 69 COON THIS SEASON. HE'S MADE A TOTAL OF 64 TREES. 10 DENS, 3 SLICK AND 51 WITH COON IN THEM. IF YOU DISREGARD THE DENS HE WOULD BE 94% IF THEY WERE ALL SLICK HE WOULD BE 78% IF THEY ALL HAD COONS IN THEM HE WOULD BE 95%. HE TREED SLICK ON A PERCIMON THE SECOND NIGHT OF OUR SEASON AND THEN MADE 36 TREES IN A ROW WITH COON IN THEM. MOST OF THE DENS HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS WITH SEVERAL OF THEM BEING REAL GOOD LONG RACES DURING THE RUT. HE'S NOT ALWAYS THE QUICKEST DOG TO COME TREED BUT HE'S JUST ABOUT ALWAYS RIGHT. I MAY BE INTERESTED DOWN THE ROAD IN A FEMALE OUT OF YOUR STOCK TO BREED TO HIM TO HELP KEEP THE GOOD NOSE AND ACCURACY GOING.

Bobby he sure sounds like my kind of hound. Numbers like that are very impressive. That is really how I determine how much coondog I have on the end of my chain. Winning hunts is nice & fun, but it takes consistency for me, and putting 36 trees in a row with a coon in them is a pretty darned nice job in my opinion. Sounds like you have a very nice dog at your house. What does his pedigree look like?? He sure sounds like something I would want a pup out of. Thanks for posting your results

Good hunting to you!!

Yes it takes a pretty nice dog to put together a string of 20 consecutive trees, (or more) in a row with a coon in them. I'm kinda sinical at times but I do like to keep track and see just how skilled they can get at treeing a coon without making a mistake.

The best I have ever put together here at home is 26 staight tracks that ended on a tree with a coon in it. I have only had two dogs in my life get above 20 straight tracks/20 straight trees, with a coon in them. This was done (both times) in the month of April. This was accomplished by my 1st real coondog Tree Banging Buddy (Bates Screaming DemonXMayles Beech Rive Dolly) who treed 24 straight. and then his son, my Nt.Ch. Raw Dawg Rowdy, (Tree anging BuddyXHooper Ridge Queen) who treed 26 staight tracks to a tree.

Holly is Really accurate, but she has never put over 20 straight tracks to a tree with a coon on the outside. I think Holly's best streak was 15 straight tracks to a tree with a coon. Maybe its just luck to put that many tracks to a tree with a coon, then again maybe its Luck with skill that allows a dog to accomplish that.

I don't have the answer, but aroud these parts, 20 straight or better is a pretty darn big feat!!
