Digestion

Does anyone know how long it takes a dog to digest his food? I feed the dogs I am hunting that night before noon; that would be from six to eight hours, depending on the time of year, to digest their food. The other night I took a young dog off the tree about two A.M. and had a mile to lead him back to the truck; he had been treed about an hour before I got to him. He drank some water along the way, and I took a half-hitch with the lead around his flanks to slow down his pace a little. About ten minutes after I half-hitched him he started regurgutating his before noon meal, and it looked like it hadn't even started being digested. Looked like wet dog feed. I feed a high fat 25% protein chicken and rice diet to them. This incident got me to thinking about digestion; just how long does it take them to digest good quality feed? Any information would be appreciated. Tom
