for hounds, most common is 18", 20", 22" depending on the head size. I have some that are 16" but only use on young dogs. as they mature, I use a larger choke.

For the slip style show leads, keep them short. That's the point--the show handler wants to keep the dog's head up. I have a very nice leather one that's about 4 ft. including the slip..

are you referring to just the choke or the entire lead w/ choke? I must have misunderstood. about 36" - 40". too long and its a lot of material to ball up in your hand. also depends on the height of the dog. shorter dog = longer lead. altho Fifi the Doberman was shown on a very long lead!!

for me, if it's just the lead with a snap on the end, I like about 24" - I'm short and more than that is just too much.

thanks for the info. these will be the slip style lead and collar in one. so it sounds like 36"to40" will be a good standard size to have

36-40" is too long if its a choke lead. I agree with Cynthia, 20-22" is about right.
