Any one ever have any trouble using treated lumber for a kennel floor?

take a look at trex lumber. no splinters because its made from recycled plastic. not the cheapest materials but lasts along time. if i had above ground kennels thats what i would use.

i have treated deck boards and like them but i want to go with the synthetic deck boards myself.

to the guys using deck boards. How far apart do you gap the boards if any? I was thinking about pouring a 11X25 concrete pad for 2 kennels. Now i'm wondering what the wooden floor might be like. I would rather use deck boards over plywood. That way if i hose it down the water will drain better. Any issues with splinters? I know if you don't keep up with treated lumber it cracks and splinters.

i spaced mine 1/2 inch apart. works great no splinters and easy to clean

I use 5/4 board and rip it down to one inch then put a one inch gap it works great.

You can find damaged composite decking at your local lumber yard for a good discount. It last much longer and looks better longer than treated lumber. Cleans up really good. I layed a stone bed down and layed treated 4x4 posts on the stone and put the deck boards over the 4x4's. Works great.

One more piece of advice. If you can find a local saw mill that treats their own wood, its generally a lot better quality than the stuff from Lowes etc. If you use
Lowes wood, put the boards tight cause it shrinks and swells bad. If you get better wood from a local mill, leave an inch cause it doesnt shrink or swell or warp etc. Thats been my experience. Also saved about 2 bucks per decking board at the saw mill.

probably not the best way to go but i brought home some pallets from work an sorta made my kennel off of them...have had it a few years now and no real problems...except sometimes the dogs step thru the slats but usually learn quick. i figured easy to clean and replace if needed but so far havnt need to replace them...
