Dog Hauling

Okay, I know there is an entire section o dog transport on this very message board....but this is more of a question to the folks that read this board.

So what do you believe the going rate for transporting a dog should be? Do you think it should be a per mile rate, or a flat rate depending on the size of the dog?

How much would you pay to have your dog hauled 500 miles?

Nobody else have an opinion?

Maybe I didn't ask the question very well....

What would you pay to have a dog that you have purchased transported 500 miles?

What would you pay to have your good female shipped to a breeder or breeding facility for artificial insemination?

David Sullivan Hauling hauls from Wheeling WV to Charleston, WV to my facility every Sunday with a return on Monday for $80 each way in a professional dog truck. His route is set so you need to ask him his route. He actually lives in OH. 740-359-9508

We include the boarding on all bitches we breed here until Dave picks them back up and carries them back home. I told him to expect calls. He normally hauls high dollar racing dogs. All holes are big enough for a dog to stand up and turn around easily. Holes are big enough to double dogs.

Joe, I posted the below quote on a rabbit hunting site back in March 2011.

I looked at the cost of the gas, food, time lost travelling, and etc... compared to paying for a dog hauled.

For 500 miles equals 1000 miles roundtrip. Wouldn't mind spending $275 - $325 as when you figure out your gas milage, food, and loss time in the travel time, you save money.

Now if you have 250 miles equaling 500 miles roundtrip, depending on what I had on my plate being busy, I would probably haul the dog myself.

quote:
That's the cost of using a hauler.....I had one hauled down in January from MI to AL the week the "blizzard" hit the south...........22 hour round trip if I did it. You figure gas, food, and your time driving 11 hours up and 11 hours down.

Say the round trip mileage was 1320 -- figure out the gas cost then minus the difference in hauling cost = convenience.

My truck gets 20 mpg on the HWY - Let's say I get 420 miles to a tank on the HWY - 420 x 3 fill ups = 1260 miles which is still less than the trip so have to fill tank up 4 times. Right now it cost me $76 to fill up my tank so $76 x 4 fill ups = $304.

I paid $275 to bring the dog down -- In Jan, it cost me $65 to fill up. $65 x 4 fillups would have been = $260.

$260 in gas I would have paid minus $275 dog hauled = -$15 --So for an extra $15, I didn't have to do a 22 round trip and buy food, not to mention pee breaks and gas breaks which would have made it longer than 22 hours round trip.

Had one flown in a few years back.......Had to pay for airline crate, vet certificate, and airfare cost.

Most dog haulers have a good batch of dogs to haul , so you'd split your expense between your average number of dogs ... not charge me like it's a dang ambulance ride.

You can ship a pup through the airport cheaper than you can hire a dog hauler these days , on average .... I've shipped and recieved several pups in small crates for $200 or less .

$200 is plenty , $250 is pushing it .. better be bonded and insured for the job ... $300 and forget it .

Dave Sullivan does not split up expenses. It is a set $80 per dog. Keven Blaske hauls from Magnum, OK to WV to here and Willis Hill runs from KS to WV and KS to FL. They are about $100 a dog and fit about 80 dogs per run in heated/AC with water.
