Although I don't train dogs for the public I understand exactly where you're coming from. The people who charge $200 are basically just putting the dog in the woods in my opinion. Let's say the trainer takes the dog 20 times. That comes out to $10 a hunt. A man can't pay for the gas he uses in his truck / fourwheeler at that price. People forget that the cost of housing a dog for month isnt cheap either. I have argued this topic with close friends before that wanted me to hunt / train for them. Training starts as a puppy where manners & obedience are instilled in them. Heck some times it takes a month for the dog to warm up to ya so you can handle it. There's no way $10 a night or $200 a month is worth the headache of chasing another man's dog in the wee hours of the night because you can't catch it. In reality if a man is looking for some one to actually " train " his dog, let's face it, most of the time there's serious issues with the dog if it wasn't they wouldn't be looking for a trainer. Beside that look at the time the trainer is taking away from his dog to work with another man's. Just a few of the reasons why I agree with you.

Seems high priced to me too. $5,000 can buy you a stud dog.

At first I thought it might be a typing error, thought maybe $500 which I could see but now I starting to wonder if it was a typo. I was trying to poke a little fun at slobbermouth. Outback 1 you were talking about comma's and periods, you may want to look into spell check (just kidding).

Pup started in feb, wins first hunt in nov. 10 months x 500=5000. Most likely not a mature FINISHED dog either.just one capable of winning or placing in comp hunt. Add entry and gas money and in all reality,5000 is close to what the owner will end up paying.

some so called trainers charge $300.00 a month to train in a coon training facility, pen.
the facilities or pen consist of a coon in a cage trap. should'nt be hard to find 1 in there. LOL i've known people spend $1500 in 5 months, and when they got their dog back, starved and not hunted

I THINK THE FELLA WAS TALKING ABOUT FINISHING THE DOG WHICH COULD TAKE A WHILE, 16 mths X $3OO about $4,800 or
24 mths x $200 about the same.

Can"t you folks read?
I don't think you can get a dog "TREEING IT'S OWN COON NIGHT IN NIGHT OUT" in a month.
And nowhere in his post does he say he can do it in a month.
From what I've seen over the years , any dog that can
"TREE IT'S OWN COON , NIGHT IN , NIGHT OUT" is worth 5 grand !
From what I've seen , everybody has one , till you go hunt with it !

Most if not all of the pkc champs and Gr Nite s I've hunted with could be bought real easy for 2000.00 or less. Why of earth would anyone pay you 5000.00 to TRAIN a pup that MIGHT not make it anyway. Can you say complete dumba$$. And if you expect me to believe that then you are smokin crack!

To answere someone's question ill be 22 in a few months started being taught and handlen dogs when I was five by the time I turned 9 I was going out behind the house hunting dogs and trained my first pups by myself usen a four wheele to get around and yes I told him 5000 I wasn't meaning you should pay it but like one guy said something prolly wrong with the pup and that's true and that's the reason I said 5000 because he was more then likely gonna have to leave that dog at my house for six to nine months that cuts int. My dogs times in the wood plus gas, feed, vet, vet, vet, vet dern vets ain't cheap dog breaks his leg I'm out of 300 befor I even get him there but most of the time I charge based what I see about the pup but he wanted a coon treeing machine so you get what you pay for add it up you buy a pup 100 to 500 then pay the vet bills buy the dog food fill ole Betsy up with gas to go back and forth to hunt.

h

i knnow what you guys are saying i charge right under 400 and i dont make much money off of it it just pays for gas and i like to hunt pups hunting an old dog just gets boring to me once you hunt a dog so long you learn what every bark it makes means and it just gets boring thats why i hunt pups its exciting and i guarantee mine get put in the woods but to my point not everyone trains dogs for money i do it cause its fun and exciting to see a pup succeed

I don't do it for the money eather but I'm not gonna do it to break even or go in the hole! And I would of went in the hole big time if I charged 500 and the guy wanted a finished dog not started a finished dog I was pretty much gonna have to house and feed this **** eater for six to nine months and he still not be what the guy wanted although I'm sure I could of got him treeing but for all I know this guy tryed to train this dog to young and messed him up want be the first one I've seen and I'd have to read that dog see what he needs what he is tellen me and he might just tell slobbermouth I ain't doing s%*# I don't want tobe a coondog.

If my time is worth anything, I prolly had at least 5000 in some that I sold for 2 or 3 thousand. lol

Sometimes dealing with the public isn't worth 5000.

A man that writes a monthly ad on a female, lol, sent me a young female out of a highly advertised litter to finish into GRNITECH. When the leaves came off and I refused to take her to a hunt, because of slick treeing, he told me " She is out of .........." I said
" I don't care what she is out of, she slick trees way too much." He said, " She is out of ............, she does not slick tree." He then asked me to just go to the hunts and try to skimp by and get her wins. When I refused, I was the most worthless person on earth because I told the man the truth. Sometimes 5000 is way to cheap. lol
