I didn't cut loose until 8:22 pm. Rain was struck in 44 seconds. I stood out there looking to the sky and soaking the night in. The sky was a deep gray. It was dark, but than it wasn't. The only sound I could hear was the dog, and the wind in the tree tops. At 8:28 pm Rain rolled up on the wood. I found the coon, and went to get a better shot, but neighboring trees blocked my sight. I went back, and the dang thang moved tighter into the crotch. Oh well, I really like this spot so hopefully it was a sow.
Second drop, was a hot track that lasted only 5 minutes. That coon ended up being the last coon of our season.
Third drop, I noticed the wind had changed from out of the southwest to out of the northwest. The wind was also biting at my face, and shortly the snow flurries started. I cut Rain to the south, and of course she decided to turn east, then north across the road, then east again, and then finally south across the road again. She worked the track through a bunch of knee deep water for over a half mile. This track lasted about forty minutes, and ended on a huge white pine. I searched the tree. At one point I thought a caught a flash of eye, but I couldn't get it to look again if it was a coon.
By this time the sweat from the previous drops felt mighty cold, and i thought it might be nice to get home before midnight. So I ended our season.
