jmo..........but with less and less pups registered every year, i see a day when the kc's just drop the breed status and make 1 combined breed from the 6.
i can remember the days when you could set down papers of english, bluetick, or walkers, and there were the same dogs on all 3 papers. litters were split up into the 3 different breeds depending on the color they were born....this was in the 70s (breeds split in late 40s early 50s)...and it was common even then for say a bluetick born to walker parents to be moved to the "correct" breed.
b&t, redbones, and "high tans" were all considered the same breed to the hunters i grew up with...........and my great grandfather raised and sold the new "blueticks" all over the US. raised in his backyard in Appleton city mo...circa 1950s-60s. blueticks were bought and used with 0 regard to the color of anything in there pedigree. only the color of there own hide mattered.
in those days hounds sold as fast as they could be born and weaned.........and lots of people made a living buying hounds around the ozarks and shipping them nation wide.
there just isnt a demand for coondogs anymore, outside a very small comp sub culture. sooner or later the kc's, agian imo, will find it cheaper to have just 1 breed instead of 6 tiny ones.
face it coonhunting has all but died in the last 20years and it will be a wonder if it makes it 20 more. the days of splitting breeds is over, and the days of consolidation are coming imo.
