Fox and Rabbit Pens in NC
http://www.wral.com/wildlife-activi...-pens/11931488/
2013 has started with the animal rights groups targeting fellow hound hunters in NC.
We need to stand with the Fox hunters on this issue; it is a vital issue and if you know or have any connections to a state level politician please make this a talking point.
Currently we are still in "watchdog mode" for this one. However if this issue gets a written piece of legislation we will activate and begin an education campaign for all legislatures who would have a vote.
Why do we support fox pens, 2 quick reasons?
1 - The pens have escape areas made with pipe and fencing that allows the fox/coyote to escape into a hole that the dogs cannot enter. In the wild the fox/coyote have to hope to find a log or other hole that often still allows the dogs to enter. Therefore mortality rate among wild fox hunts is higher, the pens are actually safer for the fox/coyote.
2 - Trespass in NC is a major issue for landowners and hound hunters. Wild fox hunts result in landowner/fox hunter confrontations. The pen provides clear boundries for the dogs and hunter which eliminates landowner/hunter trespass conflicts. Outlawing the pens will not stop the sport from occurring in an uncontrolled manner.
