Slick trees

Got a young female who I just started hunting hard, I raised her from a pup. She will hunt alone or with company but is very independent. She is almost 16 months old. She is a stay put tree dog, but has been slick treeing alot. What do I do.

She has treed on a couple trees small enough to tell there was nothing in them and the others have been really big trees. She's not trashy at all, never messed with possums, drillers and have never seen her barking or chasing squirrels , one night some dogs ran a deer past her and she ran with them about 200 yards on the garmin but turned and cam back and started on the track she was on before. She is just naturally not trashy cause I sure don't know what I'm doing. I have never seen any squirrel nest in the trees. The way she acts is she is not barking as hard on the slick. When I have seen the coon she is barking every breath and biting and tearing vines of the tree. I lead her away from the tree and she gets back on track immediately , so I think she is just pulling up short and I am wondering if she could be treeing on a tree that the coon could have come down from and is treeing on the first tree she smells scent on? Ga dawg I have to admit about a two months ago I started really hunting her hard I would follow her pretty close when she was on track and I think that was the problem , after I backed off her and just stayed put till she locked down she has gotten better. I just wanted to know what to do on one I knew was slick. I was afraid to discipline her on a tree if she was smelling coon scent just stopping short.

I had a dog not gonna say the blood but it starts with a r and ends with the same thing a mean dog does to a dog or person when I was looking for a new male dog got him he was two about 40 percent accurate ran threw the woods barking at heaven knows what after alot of beatens and strong words he got to be about 60 to 70 percent accurate still not good in my views but the guy hunting him now is callen him a coondog so we are all different but catch you a caged coon have it put up turn her aloose when she slicks beat her not child abuse but enough she knows she did wrong then take her to the caged coon turn it aloose give it about 20 to 30 menutes head start if she trees it love her good and knock it out to her might help her might not but alowen it to stay that way will just make it harder as time goes on

She can smoke a hot track . I turned one loose during the summer and she treed it hard, at the beginning of season we caught another one and turned it loose in the middle of a bean field in the rain and give it a good head start. We turned her and three other young pups about the same age and it took her about five five minutes to tree it. The other pups never opened up. That's the only turned out coons she had and has treed several feeder coons. Friday night was her first coon to tree alone on 100% wild coon .i did not hunt her hard till recently . So I am afraid to whoop her if all she needs is more hunting time. I know some dogs that treed good early this year are having problems even finding a good track around here now. I just don't want to mess her up by doing the wrong thing.

It's been tough I'd let a few coons go without her knowing it give it and hour the turn her aloose on it when and if she trees it knock it out to her then hunt her a few nights then catch another one give it almost two hours and do the same thing try worken her up to three hour head start she might me back tracking or treeing tapped trees never know but once she gets a few shot out to her if she slicks let her know that its not ok.

That raises another problem, I can't seem to catch a coon in live trap. I have tried several different places, I have used corn , sardines, marshmallows , banana , candy bar , vanilla wafers, honey bun ,dog food ,eggs, bacon, tuna, and have only caught 2 coons in the last year. I think there just ain't a lot of coons in this area. Lol

Lee he was suggesting turn out a coon and let the coon have an hour head start. Then the next one longer.

Do you have flying squirrels? If you don't have many coon, she may be zeroing in on the only animal scent on trees that she can find. Flying squirrels live in hollow trees.

It's just little things to try to try and help the dog I'm taken it she is young coons ain't been moven good at night more early in the morning then at night around here but with her being young and doing the coon that way its not really to train her just to help her since he can't put her on really hot tracks and use it between hunting her with no coons turned loose so when she slicks he can get onto her take her over to where he put that coon out and when and if she trees it he loves on her pretty soon she will understand what's going on I've seen dogs do almost like he is talken about really isn't about their nose their bred with so much tree that even the tree a coon taped when they smell that scent on that tree even though it might be a taped tree they automatically tree and lock down instead of circlen the tree and if the scent don't keep going then they lock down and tree.

quit hunting off of feeders, and make her work a track. sounds like she had it too easy. hunt her on wild coon only, and correct when she gets it wrong.

It all depends I see where your comeing from but most coons I've seen that didn't have a hound already own them when they got dumped out sorta went on with its day. Then the ones people release with a dog seeing them and barking I've seen most of them eather run like heck hit the first hole or big tree they can get but without them haven that pressure they usely just go on with their day until you put the dog on them

thanks i dont do buckets and many cage coons.i have always
been amazed by dogs you know each coon must have a little
differnt scent to them if more than 1 coon feeds in the same tree.

I think I will sell her and just start over. Just kidding. I think I am just gona keep taking her to the woods and as long as she keeps improving and getting more accurate I probably won't do anything different. If she keeps on I will bust her tail and send her on.

O yea forgot to say she did tree in a pine thicket the other night about twelve feet up there was a huge nest, not sure what it was , never seen a nest in a pine tree. Maybe because I never looked, but either way I couldn't see a coon or anything else in the tree.
