Just saw a tv program on termite/mold dogs...

Pretty cool deal. They use the dogs to find the mold or termites in the walls of the house. I wonder how profitable it actually is? And I didnt see one hound, just terriers. Anybody seen this?

Guy has a son on my son's football team. He trains retrievers. He also works for a major termite company. He has the contract to supply bedbug and termite sniffing dogs to their southeast zone.

He seems to be making decent money training the dogs, he uses lab mixes from the local pounds.

The benefits to the termite/exterminators is that the dog can inspect an area faster and more efective than the actual person can. To find bedbugs is time consuming using a flashlight and moving bed linens near the headboard. To find termites requires people to suiit up and inspect the underside of a home. A dog can do an inspection before the person is even suited up, a hotel inspection for bedbugs can be completed in 1/4th the time. It's likely not effective for the one off exterminator, but for big companies the more calls and jobs processed in a day equals more $.
