Stop switching feed on him. Pick one and stick with it.

Put him on a real short chain so he won't burn it off and feed a high quality meat and fat based feed

weight loss

Some of the bags of food say that in colder weather you have to increase food 35-50%. My vet told me to feed him as much as I needed to to get him to the desired weight then back off slowly. A training facility told me that they switched him to only being fed one time daily and I tried that but it did not work. He lost considerable weight as the nights got colder. My vet told me to give him 1cup to 1.5cups after I hunt him. Also recommended that I give him a chunk of beef loin fat about the size of my thumb in colder weather. I think I paid .78 cents a pound for 4 pounds at the local butcher. I am still on the first pound 3 weeks later. Just some ideas I wanted to pass along.

Had the same problem u have years ago with pedigree. I used to be on a program with them and got dog food aite cheaper than everyone else. After about 4 months or less the dogs lost weight bad. I put them on a different feed and no problem then. Called pedigree and told them about it and to take my name off anything of theirs. Never will feed anything from pedigree again. Bad feed!

donald i'd like to know where you are getting no-mo at now ? best wormer we ever used but was discontinued several years ago by the fda . i had a cuople dogs with weight problems we just call them hard keepers lol my best advice is to put them on a probiotic . some dogs have a pancriatic ailment that doesn't allow them to digest food properly . probiotics and b-12 supplement is the treatment .

Reducing his activity level will never balance out the foundation of a poor quality feed. Crappy feed is crappy feed, no matter how anyone wants to mask it. If he is hyper, if he is active, that has more to do with the gene pool than his feed. Trying to feed a dog so as to minimize what he is genetically is about as bass-ackwards thinking as I have ever heard. Feed him the best that you can afford and you'd be surprised at how many issues magically go away.

Excellent advice during the hunting season when you may be feeding more than he can physically digest during a 24 hour period. Probiotics will help him get the maximum amount that he can out of a feed. I tend to just upgrade to a higher quality feed and it generally is a wash where the wallet is concerned.

Yea!!! The Vet is saving a bunch of money!!!! About 200.00 to 300.00 dollar savings. If I carried my dogs and cattle to the vet every time there was a problem I'd be on the corner with a sign. Will work for food cause I'm an idiot!!!

your lucky man donald lol we was all sick when we couldn't get it in texas no -mo lol i don't really know what the deal was i called them and a daughter or someone told me the old folks had passed on and they was running it . and then i heard the fda was pulling it and when i tried to call the girl at the office back , i never got anybody to answer the phone . we was all scrambleing around to every feed store trying to buy what was left .

i'll try and find my info on the pancreatic disorder in dogs to post up on weight problems in dogs . it is not as uncommon as one would think and ranges from sevear where dogs actually starve to death on a full belly to moderate symptoms . i know i feed about 20 dogs on average and every now and then you will have a dog just look thin and run down on the same feed that all the other dogs stay fat and slick on . that is when i started studying up on the causes excluding worms wich is the first place i start . my x-wife was a vet tech and between her and the vet and myself researching and all this is like i said not uncommon as one would think .

Yes I miss it. It sure did goood on tapes believe it or not. even back then I tied my dogs out in the woods behind the pen when I dosed them . I had heard it expells (ie like a renter being evicted) but the no accounts were still around to invade a nother system . LOL maybe I was wrong but most likely I heard right . Dose them and let them pass well away from the pen (appartment complex) or you aint done nothing but temporary fix.
