Anybody carry a machete?

I have been getting in some unbelievable spots lately that I have to crawl in and crawl out of......I keep thinking if only I had a machete, these dang green briars wouldn't hurt so bad...lol

instead of a machete carry a pair of pruning shears. i do and they come in very handy. i hunt in thick brush interwoven with saw vines and grape vines. sometimes i'm like bug caught in a spiders web. i'm looking now at a pair small lopers. they might be better than shears.

Now you guys may laugh at me but ,,I use a old golf club 3 or 4 iron ,use just like a walking cane . That steel blade will cut those briars and if you walk up on a copperhead or rattler it will flat cut their head off too,,lol just make sure when you TEE off on him there is no one in the line of fire with that flying head ,,try it you can buy a whole set at yard sales cheap.

I've used one for years and would not dream of hunting around here without it. Make sure you get a good stiff one and keep it sharp.

LOL I wouldn't be scared of meeting BIGFOOT with one of them in my hand. In fact I tote one when I have to wade gator ponds. A briar patch is no place for a machete ,it doesn't beat them down, just cause you to get scratched up worse on the arm anyway, LOL

I carried one for years hunting in Fl and south MS. Took some PVC pipe heated it up then flattened it out to make a nice sheath.
Just keep it sharp. Had to put 4 stitches in my leg from hitting a sappling with a dull blade, bounced off the tree and hit my shin but was sharp enough to cut skin.

the problem i have with a machete is that it must be nearly razor sharp to cut through green brair, because the vines move away, and you have to swing that big hard and fast to be effective. that is dangerous in tight places. if you cut yourself you can be in serous trouble. i know a man that hit his dog with one. he saw the dog bleeding on the leg and asked, what happended to that dog? it had a big cut on its front leg. could have been much worse. a small set of loppers is the way to go.
