UKC says NO Garmin Alpha

I was at the KY St hunt last weekend and they announced that UKC ruled at there AO meeting you could not take the garmin alpha to the woods. It has to be left in the truck, same as a shock remote. There are going to be some very unhappy people out there. I think UKC got this one right though.

Personally, I don't think shockers should be allowed at all. Who is to say that the cheaters won't carry a second remove in their vest or sewn into a shirt. UKC, got it right for the most part. Another thing to take into consideration is the amount of prizes these companies provide for hunts. The kennel clubs are almost caught between a rock and a hard place.

Thats what I was thinking when they came out with it, didn't know what UKC would do. Its bad enough with all the guys saying they have to take a leak and walking away from the cast to take a peak at there garmin to see where there dog is and if there treed.

i have always felt that if you got a dog you feel is ready to compete it should not need a shocker period. that work needs to be done training, pleasure hunting in order to get a dog ready for the hunts. some dogs i have seen are collar broke and if they don't have a shocker on them they are totally different dogs. they are remote TRAINERS not dog collars.

What is "ready to compete"?
You hear that one allot. I got news for yah fellas, the day only dogs that are comp ready show up, you might just as well start the pie auctions because you won't get enough entries to pay the coffee bill.

That is right Jim. I like them best when it's time to go home and the dog doesn't seem to remember what their name is.

what i am saying by ready to compete is that dogs that are pretty straight coon treeers not just run with the pack and try to snag a tree type dogs. Im sure everyone thinks their dog is ready to hit the hunts until they get there and see they need more work. if i have to worry about a dog im hunting in the hunts running trash, or not coming in etc and have to run a E Collar to get a handle that dog is not ready for the hunts.

I understand where you are coming from Danny. UKC is constrained by the fact that they can only address rule changes every 3 years. I believe the n next session is in 2014. I'm betting they will make accommodations for the Alpha then.

If they are going to cheat the rules want stop them. Thats why they are called cheats.

I knew a guy once the took his shocking controler apart and built it into his box light. He taped a cord attached to the antenna to his light cord and put the antenna in the top of his helmet. His dog was mean at the tree and as he was walking in he would bump him and he would stop. Thats putting some thought into it.

I dont really care but if its ever allowed and Ive not got one yet. I should be able to carry my regular transmitter in my vest! Usually mines taught to do one thing with a shocker and thats get their tail back to where Im hollering as fast as their little feet will carry them

Im sure your right. Im sure UKC will vote on it in due time. But I (jmo) don't think e collars should be allow period in any registry. Even if they do pass it in, I wont use them in the hunts. I very rarely use one anyways, unless im running into some handling issues that need to be addressed. Like i said before. They are TRAINING COLLARS. If ol coon tree machine still needs to buzzed or needs it on to remind him of his bad ways then it would be hard for me to keep a dog like that. There has to be a point and time we finish a hound into a COON DOG.

Not handling is the quickest way to get culled around here. Probably the reason I got out of walker dogs after less than two years.

Must be different everywhere I ever hunted. Once again I hear about em all handling but have failed to see it. Im not arguing with ya. That's just what I've saw. Suppose some of yall can find me a coondog that goes till treed or I call it in? Something that can win. Im really tired of loosing. Oh and I ain't got much money.

handling starts in the yard not in the woods. and the plus of the sport dog is that the trainer is COMPLETELY removable. no worries about having an e collar on the dog in the hunts. the Alpha just remove the prongs is the draw back that i see.
