I can't speak for others, but my last male I decided not to grand him out. I simply didn't think it was worth it. The dog was the 5th generation of my breeding. He reflected 20 years of hard work. He almost lost his life due to an infection he got from bites of a mean dog. He lost 3/4 of one lung from the infection.

The other part of it was I knew exactly what kind of dog I had, and he was more than capable of finishing out. To each their own, if a guy feeds a dog that is really all that matters.

Most, just get the nitech title to prove they can win in ukc. There mainly hunted in the other kc, just what ive noticed.

Well...with Sid it just got to the point to where we just didn't care anymore. He had 17 ntch cast wins and only 3 wins to grand due to higher scoring casts. There were lots of people breeding to him so we didn't finish him. Instead we focused on his offspring and had a blast ever since.

He's a coondog. Pup trainer. Best friend. Stud dog. and a reproducer and absolutely has no idea he is not a grand nite champion.

We will continue to breed him and hunt him and enjoy him until the day he dies. He will be 12 in october so we thank god every chance we get for allowing us the blessing of having him around. And he's still producing so hopefully will have some of his pups around for years to come.

I own grnite dogs but honestly Ive gotten to the point to where I dont really care about that title.. I hardly ever compete in a local hunt unless its a RQE or a sectional.. At this point im not sure I'll ever finish another dog past a nitech unless it has an All Grand pedigree. Those titles dont prove anything to me and I'm the only person my dogs have to impress..

LOVE THESE ANSWERES. I HAVE A NITECH THAT HAS 9 CAST WINS IN NITE CH CAST AND HAS NO WINS TOWARD GRAND. HE'S A COON DOG IN ANY PART OF THE COUNTRY AND I ENJOY HUNTING HIM. HIS FIRST PUPS ARE REALLY COMING ON AND COULD WIN SOME HUNTS RIGHT NOW. I MAY FINISH HIM SOMEDAY BUT I DONT HAVE TO TOO PROOVE HE'S A COONDOG. I WILL CONTINUE TO USE HIM IN MY BREEDING AND IF OTHERS WANT TO THATS FINE AND IF NOT THATS FINE TO.

Right now I do not have a nt ch. Papers do not make a dog. Around here it seems as if to win a nt ch cast you need to beat a slick handler not the dog.

A coondog is not what papers say. Go coonhunting with the stud then you will know.

On Monday morning there will be alot more nt ch.

I have made 5 Grand Nite ch. in my nite hunt career. My present dog will make Nite Ch. and then I will go after an HTX title on him and propably stop and start on another dog.

Here is Lincoln's story
He has been put in a limited amount of hunts
He made NT CH in 4 hunts last year 2012
He was not pushed in the hunts after Qualifying for 2012 World in April last year
He started this year off with a win at SETW Days followed by another win at the Barlow OH World Qualifier
He has 3 more cast wins this year that he didnt get a win towards GR One of those being at Walker Days just this past weekend in Montpelier OH
Lincoln is still a NT CH partly because I wanted to finish him in the BIGGER hunts with the leaves OFF
Now I didnt intend for him to have a Stud Dog status this quick I basically just wanted to get some pups on the ground for myself but with his pedigree and ability he started getting a lot of interest
I am not in any big hurry to finish him It will happen He has won 5 out of 7 casts this year
Lincoln deserves the chance to reproduce just like all his ancestors and should not have to be a GR NT to do it
If you have any questions about Lincoln feel free to call me or better yet bring your best and lets go for a hunt I will let Lincoln speak for himself

Ive also got a 9 month old pup out of Lincoln that we will turn loose by himself and depend on him to tree coon too

I put about as much faith in a UKC title as I do the lottery. I was a paid handler for several years and finished dogs I would not feed. A title means nothing. I've seen dogs win major UKC events that never treed a coon, if the handlers good enough at manipulating the cast they can get a plus on anything in UKC. If the owner is pleased with there hound that's all that matters. If you don't wanna breed because its only a Nt champion that's your choice. The best dogs in the country are not UKC Grand Nites...

Less and less are pushing for grand nite these days. One reason is because once you grand out there is nothing but major hunts for you. The other reason is that grand is not worth what it was 25 yrs ago. And many are hunting other KC's. There are some really nice dogs showing up at some of the other hunts that may get nt ch in UKC and that is it.

A dog will reproduce regardless if he or she is titled or not. That's what's wrong with a lot of breeding programs today, to many people care about the NAMES & TITLES on a piece of paper, more then the dog's, it's anchestors, and it's offsprings actual ABILITY IN THE WOODS!!!

we

we got a clover and nailor stud and the only reason he is even a nitech is so people knew he could win in the hunts no point in making him grand because we dont breed for papers and once made nitech he was never put in another hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!! we breed for ability not for what papers are going to look like

30 years ago there was some kind of pride to grand a dog. Now it's a peace of paper. The pain of going to those hunts to get beat by a point. i have been out of the UKC thing for 4 years. And i have liked it. I came back and OMG I hate it. What i see going on is unreal for a yellow peace of paper. And the people doing it is unreal. I have hunted against a guy for a few years and we have got along but him and I hunted at a little UKC hunt one night against a 72 year old man. The old guy was cheating and fighting and made a total a$$ out of himself I couldn't beleave what was going on. We caught him every time and minused him he got louder. My point is I understand why people quit at nt ch.

i can see it happening espeacially after haveing one fall 60 feet out of a tree.... i only lacked one win on him so i went ahead and finished him after he was well.... i have a female that it took 22 cast wins after ntch to make grnt... most all these wins in bigger hunts so it can get exspensive.... i could care less what the sire or dam does... show me what its pups do

I am not expert, but if thats a concern of yours, don't breed to a NT. CH dog. Plenty of GR. NT dogs to choose from. That way you won't be up at night wondering when its going to happen and your papers will finally say what you want them to say.

A) Some of the dogs you see are only Nt Ch's bc they hunt in the other kc and could care less about ukc titles. B) Most of the Nt Ch studs you see are bc a ton of hunters out there think that now just bc their dog made nt ch all the sudden they are a stud dog!

My personal feelings on this are if you want to have a public stud dog you better make them a gr nt at minimum. I think you owe that to the people who will be breeding and buying pups from your dog. Do titles make a coon dog? Anyone with any sense knows they don't but anyone with any sense should realize that titles do help people sell pups and sway them to breed to your dog when considering yours vs everyone else's. now if you want to breed your personal females for yourself or your buddies gyp then titles really don't matter at all.

I myself, along with many others these days could care less about a ukc nt ch or gr nt ch degree bc it really doesn't show the true talent of a dog. It's the same degree if a dog earns it in 8 hunts or 40 hunts. A much better measuring stick is the amount of money a dog has won in other registries.

Amen to everyone's comments! We have some semen dogs that we hunt but not in comp. There is only one straw left of the sire of these pups who's peds include Gold Creek Mungo and Spring Creek bloodline. I couldn't care less about the title either. Ukc is a joke in the hunts and the shows in my opinion.

Breed to improve the breed and you'll be ok.

If UKC. is such a joke why do you have 2,860 posts on the board they provide? And do you suppose voiceing crap like that helps or hurts the sport?
