What rule or rules would you like to see changed, added, or taken out? Including breed standards, bench show rules, nite hunt policies etc.

Even though I don't own one, I'd like to see the American Blue Gascon be accepted as a breed or at least be accepted in bench shows with out being eliminated by fault for being to big.

I would like to squall as soon as shining time starts.I also feel that all two dog casts should have a non-hunting judge or at least a third person to go along.

forget the count down. just get rid of 2-4 tree position all together since everyone hates a dog that covers a tree.

I hope they never allow GPS during time in. That would be nothing but problems.
I'd like to see squalling at any time or never at any time. One or the other. I'd love to see 6 minutes max shinetime. 10 minutes is way too long.

How about a buddy system? No one person should be left to go into the woods alone. Most of the time you are not a guid so you dont know the woods your in. This kind of common sense rule may have prevented the death of that twenty something kid a month or so back. Further more the new garmins alow us to track each other. If these had been available when this young man died they couldnt have helped because they would be illigal. We have some very neat toys available to us that can make hunting safer for us and our hounds but for, what is in my opinion, no good reason we cant use them. For any one who wants to point out how people could use these to cheat. I personaly dont need to hear it because cheaters will cheat no matter what. Thanks Justin

if used with non hunting judge and he carrys all hand helds.

if 2 handlers strike same dog.no more splitting strike.look at garmin/gps; 1 dog is where the strike came.
the other is 200 yards in dif direction gets minused.help eliminate "Pitching".

I would like to see the use of a garmin in certain situation. I would like to REQUIRE the judge to use the gamin to mark the spot after dogs are declared treed. The judge would be required to keep the garmin on and in full view of all handlers. All alerts would be required to be turned off. This would certainly reduce, if not completely eliminate all arguments as to witch dog pulled to who when dogs are treed so deep that split trees cannot be determined by the almighty power of hearing. This would also be useful in marking locations of where dogs are treed at when scoring trees where the background noise is so overpowering such as you may find when scoring one dogs tree and remaining dog/dogs in the cast get declared treed in different locations during the shine time of the first dogs tree.

Another great use of the garmin device would be the advantage of seeing just how close dogs are getting to a busy road, or posted ground before time out would need to be called. This would certainly make it a little safer for a handler to know exactly when his dog is getting into or near harms way. And while I'm on that subject, I think we should tweak the time out rule just a bit. I think it is foolish to call time out when 1 of 4 dogs is getting into harms way when the other three are running a coon to catch and expect the hunters to call time out. I would like to see a handler be able to retrieve their hound and remove it from harms way, while the clock is still running. With the independence exhibited today by many dogs,it is not unusual to have two or thee going in the direction you are allowed to hunt, and one or two dogs heading in the opposite direction, either on posted property or toward a busy road.

Now anybody that has used a garmin, certainly knows by now that the little dog pictured standing on the tree is a VERY poor and NON-reliable source of information when attempting to declare a dog treed. You better still rely on your almighty sense of hearing when making that call or it will probably be a very short night of entertainment, LOL.

Just a couple of suggestions to take before the rules committee of your breed of choice. Have a wonderful day, as I'm sure I will, LOL!!

I like to see more trouble makers called out and barred. Fighting dogs noted more and barred too. Don't think they do enough now. Or, if there is a trouble maker in the cast let the other handlers in the cast handle it with out an assault charge pending

How about allowing you to just call a dog treed that falls treed without having to lie and say he was struck just because the rules say so ... I don't get the idead of honor rules or christian hunters and having rules that say " if your dog fall treed , lie about it and strike him in first ".


Do away with minus for slicks , off game or whatever .... the dog that trees the most coon wins ... if a dog can tree as many or more coon than you and slick or kill skunks on top of it ... then so be it ....

Id change a crap load of em.
1, No min rule anymore or see #6.
2, Tree countdown. After 2 min no other dog can be treed. After closed tree. Any dog that comes in period. Has its strike minused.
3, 30 sec walking rule off a tree to recast.
4, Any dog returns to any previously scored tree. Its scratched.
5 tree jackers and face barkers are now aggressive behavior.
6, Any dog that barks through the min can't be struck during min unless followed by tree call. Any dog that's barked through min is automatically struck for 25 after min is up. Ones not barking are open to 100.
7, Anybody calling wrong dogs anytime. Scratched.

I want to keep 10 minutes shine time. If the dog has a coon it deserves to be scored for it. It doesn't often take that long to see a coon but it sometimes takes that long to get a majority of the cast in place to see it. Whats another 4 minutes to score a dog thats treed a coon?

If you know your dog is treed slick, you know you don't have to burn the full 10, don't you? lol.

Its inevitable that Garmin's will be allowed at some point. We might as well be thinking about how to accommodate them. Hard telling how many guys are using them already.

A rule that might make it simpler to start out with is, "the Garmin cannot be used to score any situation". So, lets say the judge minuses your dog for leaving a tree. You scream and jump up and down waving your Garmin and say no he didn't because the Garmin says so. In that case the judge is not obligated to use whats on your Garmin to allow you to get your way.

There has to be a strict rule that you have to HEAR your dog treed, to keep the 2, and the minus, off.

IMO, as Garmins become more common and improved, we might be able to use them to score some situations. Why not use it to tell a dog has moved or not moved?

Under rule 6 (c) fighting or attempting to fight is defined bywhen dog(s) are interfering with other dog(s) during the authority of the judge by aggressive behavior. Could facebarking fall under this you think?

I dont see the downside with allowing GPS. No one is going to tree a dog that cant be heard by the judge anyway. It would certainly make it alot easier to split the difference between dogs that are deep to allow the handlers to accuratly call them. It would allow the cast to shorten the distance when dogs get deep before being struck, saving hunt time and it might save a dogs life from time to time.
I have been attending a few HTX. hunts and it sure is nice to be able to use your Garmin. Maybe i dont have enough larceny in my soul but i cant see a way for a guy to sucessfully cheat with one and i have had one since they first came out.

They are being used regular , I don't hit many hunts and am not a regular or in any cliques ... but the last cast I was on ..everyone had their garmins on and took them to the woods and used one guy's to help us navigate and get to the dogs during hunt time .... and it was like no big deal .

I think the average , small club that is just having a regular hunt .... they do whatever they feel like and the rules are just a guideline ... or tiebreaker , lol .
