Could a dog that is shy or timid acting pass that along to the pups? Just curious if anyone has ever seen this or experienced this when breeding?

I would say so, not exactly a prime breeding prospect.

Many times it is passed on if it is in the dispostion and personality of the hound.

If the hound is timid because it has been abused then that is a different story.

Shy and timid would immediately eliminate that dog from my "breeding pool". Having said that, I have never bred one that is backwards in that manner.

I have though in the past bred one that was aggressive to a fault. Thought I could "breed out" the aggression. Learned the first litter that I was DEAD WRONG. I have video proof of 15 week old pups slinging each other at the bottom of a tree on the first coon they ever smelled.

So...... I can say that I've seen first hand that personality traits can be passed along from generation to generation.

But if your looking to improve your kennel take that dog out of the breeding line and replace it with another good female or male whichever one that has the problem. Down the line if there is one bad dog the line just get messed up because you will get those unwanted traits. The top bloodlines are created by seeking out those unwanted traits and fixing them with good dogs that have really now flaws. Everyone wants to better the breed of dog they have.

She hunts good, and is not timid or shy at all in the woods. Anyone can put there hands on her. Its just in the kennel or when running loose. She wont come to anyone but me or the guy I got her from. He got her as a pup and she was the same way. She is not quite 2 years old so im hoping she will get better.

If it was a man made issue with her being timid would it be less likely for the pups to turn out the same way or does that even matter. Sorry for all the questions but im still trying to learn. Thanks for any help

My ntch female is timid as heck around house but woods she acts totally different she has 26 pups not one is timid at all from 4 different studs so I think she will be fine!

I bought one with out trying out one time that was a little shy and timid when I put her in the truck I thought I got took come to find out she was everything the man told me all good .I have one now that is out of her I can see a little bit of that in him he made a nice young dog that has a home for life like his mom did Bell .Also have a pup from him that I like alot .So I would say long as it is not to a fault and it does not show in the woods breed her.
