Leaving dogs and pups at autumn oaks!!

When will people stop this crap??? I live near the fair grounds and there was even a article in the local newspaper about this... It makes all hunters look bad.

Who would be happy with hunters being frowned upon for a few idiots choices?

Do you think they will stop leaving dogs if they move it? I don't think so.

Well

You would think that whoever sponsored the event would do a walk through to make sure that the establishment is clean and no animals were left behind.. Yes it looks bad on our sport but it shows neglect on the part of the ones in charge...

So it's has nothing to do with the guy that left the dog??? That makes sense. The club did give left dogs to people but they can't take care of it all

You can't hold everyone's hand that has a dog there.. All ya can do is hope ya don't find any and if you do just deal with it the best ya can. You don't want to leave it up to the people that own the grounds...
UKC should make a rule that if your caught in the act of abandoning a animal at a ukc event that the guilty party ( ALL INVOLVED ) be barred for life....
Maybe that would make them think twice....

Next year who ever brings dogs and or pups make them register the number of dogs they bring, then before they leave show proof of how many they have left or sold, this may help.

It's a shame that this is what happens to these dogs. Heck leaving a dog is like leaving a kid. Shows how immature some people can be.

So next time I want a pup I should just wait around till everyone leaves at big hunts? It sounds absurd that people would do that, kind of like Joe Dirt. I bet those pups turn out fine like he did. But all joking aside, this is pretty ridiculous and I cannot believe stuff like this happens...

I would like to say that it has been many years since I personally was aware of anyone leaving dogs at the grounds. And maybe the UKC staff does need to make a lap before we leave but this problem has not been brought to my attention in a long, long time. How many dogs / puppies were abandoned this year? And how about last year for comparison. Just trying to get an idea.

I was also not aware that the Wayne Co CHA was patrolling the grounds 24/7 monitoring dogs. That's great but we should probably get together on that somewhat. UKC also has volunteers that we coordinate to do the same thing.

I think whatever efforts we are going through are working because I personally took a big lap on the golf cart both afternoons looking for issues and I never saw any big dog trader strings of hounds in poor condition. I never saw any guns on tailgates or being carried around for sale. Never saw anyone drinking beer. Maybe they see me coming....I don't know.....but I really didn't see any problems. I think it's getting better.

Wouldn't you be if a pack of clowns left a bunch of pups in your back yard? Dumping hounds is a pretty chicken #$@% way of dealing with a problem. Either take care of them or don't own them. This is why I say there are more cull owners then there are cull hounds. I think that it is great that the locals try to do their best to find homes for these neglected pups.

This is the Only one that I found so Far and It was on Facebook
Quote From "Animal Care Alliance" Richmond Ind.

"Once again it is time for the Autumn Oaks Coonhound event. As someone that has been involved in animal rescue in this area for almost 20 years, I am less than enamored with this gathering. Before the last camper leaves the fairgrounds, those of us that care for the lost and abandoned animals of this community will begin to get calls about dogs that have been left behind. Dogs are taken out on nigh
t hunts and after chasing down terrified raccoons, the dogs that fail to return are often left behind, “poor performers” in the hunt. Those dogs soon begin to show up at farms and homes, frightened and hungry. Many will not survive, victims of automobiles, disease, starvation.
Hunters should, at the very least, be required to leave with as many dogs as they arrived with. A substantial donation to the groups in the area that care for their abandoned dogs might also help. Not all events that include dogs and people are happy events for the animals."
