possum eating

my dogs killed two possums on the ground last night. i decided a while ago that if they killed one, they were going to eat it. so i held my nose and cleaned them. it wasn't so bad after i got them cleaned and they didn't look too bad either. this morning i put them on the grill. i sprayed some olive oil on them as they cooked. they didn't look bad and didn't small bad at all. i let them cool and tore off a piece for each dog. one plott wouldn't touch it. the other plott swollowed hers whole. my two curs and a feist ate theirs though my kemmer cur didn't care for it at all. next time i'll wait until the evening and skip the morning meal and see if they'll develop a taste for barbecue possum. i might try it myself though it does have a parcular smell.

It's not T-bone steak, but they're not bad, not my first choice though.

if i catch one live that's what i'll do. i heard you can feed them sweet potatos to clean them out but anything is better than what they usually eat. the only time i catch them is if i'm trappin coon and catch a possum instead. my dogs tree possums and i don't care. they tree coons too. when i go, we run what we jump and like it as long as it's not a deer..

We got lots and lots of possums down here. Me and my Blue dog had to have a few "come to jesus meetings" when I first got him over them. Let's just say that now he is totaly coon minded and wouldn't fool with one if it was tied to him. (Thank goodness). We catch em a bunch when we trappin coons. Usualy they get a bump on the head and slung in the bushes.

Eatin one is NOT on my list of things to do!

Tried it "ONCE"

When I was a kid, Mom always said, "if you'll kill it and clean it, i'll cook it." So I cleaned one and she cooked it. It was a little too greasey for me, and I never ate another one. I recken if I got hungry enough, i'd eat it again. But, I ain't that hungry yet. Now, young coon is a different story.

Cut em up like a squirrel, salt, flour and fry em in a skillet like you would chicken. Some like em barbecued, but I personally like em fried better. When the kids set down at the table, you'd better grab a piece quick, cause it don't last long around here!

Last winter I baked one in the oven with potatoes, carrots and onions. That was some kinda good!
