Soap and water and treat your yard. I wouldn't use anything that is not intended for a dog.

The active chemical in frontline is Fipronil. It is known to cause thyroid problems in humans and animals. Many of the vets in this area are steering clear of it. It could explain this rash of dogs with thyroid problems.

Yes bayer still is good but I couldn't find bayer without the fertilizer around my area and have been using andro which is in the same place you find the bayer and the % of the chemical in which we use it for in the andro was 1.7% versus in the bayer it was 1.47% but I believe I would treat the area with permithium and keep the andro, bayer restricted to the top of her back only ! Don't know how well it would be for newborn pups to suck off her tits? Good luck with your pups

The fleas, ticks & other bugs have been bad around here the last few years. They'd laugh in my face if I just used soap and water. Any type of pesticide that's approved for use on dogs is bound to have some type of side effects, so ya gotta make the choice to use it or deal with a flea problem.

We've also started using garden lime around & in the dogs houses. Haven't noticed any fleas this summer yet but it seems like a good way to naturally reduce the instance of fleas, bugs and kennel smell.

We've tried everything under the sun to control fleas and this year I decide to quit fooling with all the cheap (and usually unsafe) alternatives and just use frontline. It has the least occurance of side effects on our dogs in particular and it works really well. It's the safest & most effective flea & tick preventative that I've used, and I've used them all!!

flea pill from vet.

called confortis{spelling?} it treats the dog from the inside
kills fleas and their eggs for 30 days.

any flea that is on the dog is dead in 6 hrs.any flea that jumps on later dies too.

I have researched this pretty good. Bayer tree and shrub, with out the ferterlizer, is a safe alternative. It is a low percantage. The key to using any alternative, is the dosage.

I'm currently using bio spot. Combined with a flea and tick collar. So far so good.

If your having issues, I would treat the areas around the kennels as well as your dog. What you use, and what people say works, I think is a matter of trial and error. The key is to pay attention to the active ingredients. A lot of more expensive brands, will use different active ingredients then your cheaper generic, I'm assuming this is why the price difference.

Bayer tree and shrub, does not work on ticks.

I have started using bayer home defense on my chaps, to keep ticks off of me, its a chemical I have never heard of, but I haven't found a tick on me yet.

No pesticide is good for you or your dog, they are all toxic, for you and the enviornment so use with care.

I use the bayer insect spray in the grassy areas around my kennel. For the dogs, I use Adams spray which keeps them free of fleas and ticks. I spray each dog every 3 weeks. I hunt them often 12 months out of the year. I have used bayer and Adams for years and haven't had any health related problems in my adult dogs or puppies.

I use bayer and andro along with cattle tags on there collar and been doing if for years and never had any issues and have not seen any ticks, fleas etc.. One night on a two hour cast I got 27 ticks off myself and my dog had zero it works!! It is the same ingredient in bayerand andro that is in the frontline products I don't know off hand what it is but I can get it!!!I also have given my dogs ivomec monthly to prevent any heart worm issues and that has worked well!! Bottom line dogs just like us can have anything happen at anytime you can self prescribe or spend thousands and have a vet give you the same things you are using and charge you big money if that makes you feel better!! I ask a lot of my dogs and they eat top food (dea) and are given the best care!! Do yourself a favor and log onto oldcountryvet.com and listen from a vet about just some of the scams they do to people everyday!

I've been using the Kirkland brand of flea treatment from Costco. $20.00 for 6 doses. Haven't tried the Walmart brand yet.. But I would..

This may sound silly but I've been using skin so soft bath oil for years and I never have a flea or tick problem. just wipe it on with an old wash rag once a week.

Bleach and water will kill fleas on contact. I use around the kennel, and in dog house's, but I don't spray it on dogs, cause it seems to burn them. Bleach will kill adult fleas, but it doesn't seem to kill eggs, so I usually spray several days in a row. I have sprayed W D - 40 on dogs and it also kills fleas . The best thing I found was to use 10% sevin dust in their house's, but I guess it is outlawed now. Haven't been able to find it anymore.

I use a Trifexis pill and others use a Confortis pill...Both get fleas but the Trifexis get round, hook and whip worms.. Any liquid repellant washes off a hunting dog when they get wet
