aggravated with my DC40 collar

Got it brand new last Wednesday. Put a full charge on it Thursday. Tried it out Friday evenign before putting it on the dog and it seemed fine...by the time we let the dog out the collar had shut off. And now it will not turn on (no red light) or charge (no blue light).
Garmin just told me to take the battery out because it may need "updated".The lady at Garmin says that all new units need updated.

Any thoughts? This kind of crap aggravates.

I've seen this on quite a few new dc40's i think they all had to be sent back. I must have got lucky with mine, i've had it for over a year and absolutely no issues.

Sent mine back today for same issue. Disconnect from the battery for an hour (hard reboot) fixed it short term but it eventually did it again. You have one year from date of manufacter or dated receipt so take care of it asap.
My other experience with collars and Garmin 220 have been good, this one DC40 collar was a problem, the phone system with Garmin takes time but they plan to send me a brand new replacement which is a positive.

i have seen at least 5 dc 40 collars do this and have heard of many more. i found this tech video on the problem. just click on it.
seems it is a problem many new 40's have. garmin says if they are gonna do it ,they will do it within the first month. which to me is bs. what good is a tracking collar if you have to wait a month to see if you can track your high dollar dog or not cause the 40 has stopped working.

Do you know of a tech video on the dc30 collars? My dc30 collar is acting messed up like it will work fine but then 15 min later the red lights were blinking to staying on and not flashing and lose connection and the collar will not cut off. IDK

When you call Garmin there going to tell you to update your collar 1st everytime so go ahead and do that. Next they will try to fig if it is the collar or the Astro if you have more then one collar you already know what it is if you don't try to test it by have someone add your collar to there Astro and you add one of there collars. Next if it is the collar they tell you to disconnect the battery (hard reboot) it on the collar. If I was you I would do all the above before I called this will save you a hour on the phone.

i dont know if this is the one you need or not. youtube has alot of lil videos on problems with garmins. if this dont help search on youtube and you may find the answer.
click on this one to get you started. there will be some others that will pop up off to the side that may have what you need. if not, click on one and it will show more and differant ones on the next page of videos.
just for a referance -
when your collar acts up, go to the info page for that collar on your handheld and see if it says lost communication or lost gps signal. lost communication is vhf communication between the handheld and collar, meaning something with the vhf antenna and lost gps is with the gps antenna, usually something in the wire and plug on the 30's. alot of the gps communication problems will fix thierself with the bat disconnect fix so it can reboot. if it dont fix it,try updating the collar. the red lights is most of the time something with the satellite communication with that collar because of the wire and plug not being fully connected to the unit or broke.(on the 30's). seen alot of them do this after being change over to the dayglo collars. plug gets monkeyed up or not put back on correctly.(forced back on) yours sounds like a bad connection at the wire and or plug that goes from the unit to the gps box antenna on a 30. pull the plate and remove then re attach the plug again. do not force it back on. wiggle it around and it should slip down when it is in the correct position.

yepper, my wildlife does too. i kept mine and use it when i go someplace not close to home along with the garmin. i have had alot of garmins lay down while my dog is off hunting.
i have said many times that the garmins are super nice to keep track of a dog, but for an all out lost dog i'd rather have the dependability of the old beep beep backing the garmin up in case of the failures they are prone to have.
