slow night here

we turned loose a few hounds lastnight. took one of my old bluedogs Diamond a young bluegip named Monkey. we took my B&T pup Shy and Smilins b&t pup Lori. my brother brought his old trigg dog Ring along.

when we was leaving the house i had opened the gate and Smilin pulled my truck over to the side. i was waiting on my brother to pull thru so i could close the gate. when he was commin up to the gate i heard something running towards the gate. his head lights was blinding me i was looking thought it was one of the feist we got running loose? then bout the time he was commin thru the gate a dog gone coon ran across and went under the gate between me and the hinges. i bout near got ran over by a coon fore we ever turned out. lol i guess he is drinking outta of the water trough dry as it is round here. i figured maybe that was a sign they would be movin tonight?

we went to a egg farm we hadnt been to in 4 years or more. went to what used to be a big tank (what some call a pond) which is now about a 20 foot deep hole in the ground with a mud hole in the bottom. dropped the dogs loose only bark we got was outta the pups. they put a armadillo in a hole. lol got them outta there and loaded up went to another spot on the egg farm dropped loose my Diamond dog by his self and never got a bark there either. folks it is unbeilievable these big old stock tanks on the place are dry and what arent are almost dry they dont have but prolly a 10 foot round hole of water in them. some of them tanks cover and acre or so of ground some are a half a acre or so and they are dry.

after that we went to a water melon patch which a few days ago the hogs got in and purty much cleaned up the melons. we dropped Diamond loose and the Monkey gip and didnt get a bark there either. did get a bawl outta Diamond who bumped into a skunk and managed to get sprayed. not real bad but enough he smelled plenty funky. lol we loaded back up again but let Diamond ride in the back of the truck didnt put him in the box. lol we turned loose at a almost dry stock tank there and once again not a bark.

we went to another place figured we would try once again. turned loose on a creek that is dried up dropped Diamond and Monkey loose. once again we didnt get a bark. this time we loaded up and headed on to the house. got home about 2 am. just wasnt much moving down this way lastnight didnt even see a deer on any of the places. not even a rabbit or possum. seen one half grown deer cross the highway on the way to go huntin. guess lastnight was skunk and diller night? we did get to talk about past hunts and get in a little BS-n. enjoyed gettin out with the old dogs even if it was a slow night.

Hey Tx,

Last nite, I was getting ready to go, and the Wind Picked up, Dark Clouds Rolled in, and it started raining.
I sure wanted to go, but now have to wait till next weekend.
I look at it this way, a Bad nite of hunting, is better than a good day at work. LOL
I believe, last nite, in your area, you had a South East Wind.
Im a Firm Believer, that anytime the wind is out of the East, or partly out of the East, the hunting is just not as good.

Thanks Tx,

I pay alot of attention to the weather.
in my area, the weather changes rapidly, you can leave under a clear sky, but all of a sudden, the wind can shift, and you will be cought in a thunderstorm, in just a little bit.
Also keep an eye on the Hurricanes, Rita paid us a visit last year, and mad did that do alot of damage.
