Talked to Diamond Vet...

And he told us that the only way that Diamond would be liable to re-imburse vet bills or anything else, would be if it was proven through tests or autopsy that the dog feed had affected the dogs liver.

We told him what happened with Sid and he said that Yes that was probably to do with the feed. That was probably the beginning of the poisoning, but if his blood profile on his liver came back fine, then there is nothing that we can do about it.

His word's exactly "If a dog's liver is not damaged then we can not re-imburse anything. If Diamond did, we'd be paying everyone's vet bills."

So, basically, even if you dog gets sick, has to be hospitalized, and has to have IV's, and antibiotics and you have to spend $300, you're out of luck unless the dog feed damages the dog's liver, which I think SUCKS, because we've had him for a year and never had any bloodly stool until we started feeding Diamond.

So, better get your sick dogs livers checked, and if they are good, dont expect anything from them! Which I think is wrong.

Christy

What do you expect him to say he is on Diamonds payroll... See what a lawyer says... If you have test results and you can prove you feed Diamond.... Talk to a lawyer before you decide not to pursue them...

I would venture to say that you do in fact have a leg to stand on!

It sounds to me that the dogs that are affected are not getting sick and having an extended illness....they are simply fine on day and dead the next.

I'm no vet, but I would suspect with that sudden of an onset, that it would be difficult to detect the liver damage in the amount of time that it takes the dogs to die.....

Don't give up.......stay the course and see an attorney.....

I would think that a class action suit is in order? Any legal experts out there with an opinion?

I DONT KNOW...

BUT I DO KNOW, I DONT HAVE $10,000 TO FIGHT GOR $300.

I KNOW IT'S MORE THAN $300, IT'S THE PRICINIPAL OF IT, BUT THAT'S WHY THEY ARE DOING IT LIKE THIS.

THEY KNOW THAT MOST OF THE POOR BACKWOODS COON HUNTERS LIKE US, CANT AFFORD A LAWYER AND COURT COSTS, AND EVERYTHING, SO WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SETTLE FOR $17.50 REFUND FOR A BAD BAG OF FEED.

AND THANK GOD THAT SID IS OKAY NOW.

I AGREE!! YOU HAD BETTER BELEIVE THAT IF ONE OF MINE WERE DEAD OR DYING I'D BE LAWYERING UP. IF I COULDN'T AFFORD A GOOD LAWYER I'D GO TO THE NEAREST UNIVERSITY AND FIND A LAW STUDENT WHO MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP OUT AND PROVIDE A SERVICE FOR A SMALL FEE. IF YOU WIN YOUR CASE I BELIEVE THEY COULD HAVE TO COVER YOUR COURT COSTS, LAWYER, MISSED WORK ETC. THE PEOPLE AFFECTED NEED TO BAN TOGETHER AND ATTACK THIS ISSUE IN NUMBERS. YOU ARE CORRECT ONE OF YOU STANDING ALONE MIGHT NOT HAVE A CHANCE BUT IF THERE ARE 20-100 OF YOU YOUR CHANCES ARE GREAT. GOOD LUCK

JUSTIN

Christy, put yourself in their shoes for a minute. They had an outbreak at one plant. If they didn't require showing liver failure as the cause (which is what Aflatoxin does) then every yahoo in the US would be trying to get money from Diamond. People that don't even own dogs would file a claim against them to get some "free money". It's not that they think the "coonhunters" can't afford to fight them. It's that they can't just go giving away money to everyone in the US without proof, and that proof is liver failure.

If your liver tests were fine then the food is not a likely cause since that's what aflatoxin affects the most.

Thank God I didn't have any of the bad bags. My brother was not so lucky. He had 1 pup to die and another one that barely made it.

I had my 14 year old Yorkie (like one of the family) that got ahold of it while visiting my family. He had bloody diarrhea for 3 or 4 days afterward. Thank goodness that one of moms dogs was in heat and he wasn't interested in eating much. It's like any other poision, it affects the young and old as well as the malnourished and unhelathy the quickest. I firmly believe we would have lost him if he had his normal apetite, but his son who is 2 was also with us and ate like a horse and wasn't affected.

Everyone with autopsy info

needs to get together - find a good lawyer - the evidence is beyond question as long as your dog was autopsied - there's probably more than liver damage as evidence of what the toxin did to your dogs' systems. A private lab can supply this. The suggestion of small claims court is a good one for those whose dogs survived - bring Vet bills and all treatment info. Small claims court has a limit that definitely won't cover the value of a good coonhound. JMO

WE HAVE BEEN...

MIXING DIAMOND WITH THE PURINA FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. THEN SID WAS ON A FEEDER THAT WAS STRAIGHT ON DIAMOND FOR THAT TIME.

WAS JUST TRYING DIFFERENT STUFF. CANT GET PRO PLAN ANYWHERE AROUND HERE, AND HE WAS DROPPING OFF WEIGHT A LITTLE, SO WE WANTED TO TRY SOMETHING BETTER FOR HIM SINCE HE WAS HUNTED HARDER.

WE THOUGHT IT WORKED.

ALL THEY HAVE...

AROUND HERE IS DOG CHOW.

WERE LOOKING FOR A LITTLE MORE HI-PROTEIN SINCE IT'S WINTER TIME AND HE'S BEEN GETTING HUNTED SO HARD.

PLUS WE WERE HAVING TO FEED HIM SO MUCH, TO KEEP WHAT WEIGHT HE HAD ON HIM, IT WAS KINDA REDICULOUS.

IT'S SUPER FEED FOR SUMMERTIME USE, BUT JUST DONT AGREE WITH HIM IN THE WINTER FOR SOME REASON.

Christy was Hank being fed Diamond?

I can see both sides of it. Not pretty for either side. You can bet the family farm Diamond has their legal team on it.... good or bad.

Christy...Dang about wiped you out. Glad the others are better. Girl yall need to stick with Purina. I guess it is possible that could happen to anyone, it just so happened to them. As a hound owner, I'd be concerned if this happened to one of my dogs. I guess I'd want to be compensated for my hound. I have to agree though that legally it will be interesting what Diamond does about this...if anything.

P.S. I was funning with Nathan.

Not defending Diamond , but I had a dog to start losing weight and blood in her stool about 3 years ago. The vet told me it was the brand dog food causing it. The food wasnt tainted it was just the way the food reacted with the dogs digestive system. Changed food and in a week she was back to normal. I was feeding River Run 21% when it happened.
A really good food called Maximum Nutrition is sold by Wal-Mart. Last time I compared ingrediants it was better than Purina One.

IT WASNT...

JUST A REACTION TO THE FEED.

THE LINING OF SID'S STOMACH AND INTESTINES WERE BEING EATEN AWAY.

LUCKILY WE CAUGHT IT IN TIME. YEAH, HE HAD BLOODY STOOL FOR A COUPLE MORE DAYS, BUT HE'S BETTER NOW.

AND HE EVEN ACTS 100% BETTER. STILL CANT HUNT HIM UNTIL THIS WEEKEND, BUT WILL BE GLAD TO GET HIM BACK IN THE WOODS!

christy, if i were you i would contact sampsonhillreds. her dogs have gotten sick and her vet has it about nailed down. but i think those of you with dead dogs and sick dogs and vet bills should get together and do a class action law suit like they do against the drug companies and such. more than likely you can find an attorney who would be willing to help you. but this would probably only awpply to those who have vet bills and have autopsied their dogs.
as for diamond's vet and lawyers and such of course they are going to tell you whatever they want to discourage anybody from taking legal action against them.

Diamond Dog Food Company

I tried this food back a few years and my dogs did not like it at all it gave them diarea so bad the one time is all I used it. Is this company ( Diamond ) large enough to stand behind and pay out big dollars to law suits awarded to a dog owner. I am sorry for those of you that have used this feed and lost your hounds .

Don't ever think the little guy can't win !

Last night on the local news ( Grand Rapids , Mi. ) , a guy , who admitted an accident was his own fault and left him a Quadrapalegic (sp?) , sued AAA of Michigan for benifits that he had paid for. They didn't want to pay because the accident was his own fault ( drunk driving ) , but because of Michigan's " no-fault " law , they were ordered to pay. Well , they didn't. They let it go and let it go. Well yesterday , the police showed up at AAA main offices with a court order to seize any and all property of value that would amount to $220,000 and some change. LOL Needless to say , AAA cut him an " Emergency " check for the full amount ! LOL

So , don't give up on this , I'm sure someone will help.
Sorry about your dogs and I wish you all the best.
