What do ya'll think about...

BREEDING FEMALES EVERY HEAT CYCLE?

SHOULD YOU DO IT? DONT DO IT? DEPENDS ON THE FEMALES HEALTH? DEPENDS ON HOW OFTEN THE FEMALE COMES IN?

IF A FEMALE ONLY CAME IN ONCE A YEAR, WOULD YOU BREED HER EVERY TIME?

IF A FEMALE CAME IN 2X A YEAR, WOULD YOU BREED HER EVERY TIME?

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPEREINCES WITH BACK TO BACK BREEDINGS?

JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHAT EVERYONE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS.

well i like to skip the heat cycle following a litter and at least wait for the next heat giving them approximately a year break between litters. I hunt the females i breed so i like to get them back in shape and enjoy them a little before i but them back in the brood pen.

SEE...

BOTH OF OUR FEMALES GET HUNTED HARD ABOUT 2-3 NIGHTS A WEEK AT LEAST.

SKEETER HAS ONLY CAME IN ONCE A YEAR SINCE WE'VE OWNED HER.

JEWEL COMES IN EVERY 6 MONTHS, AND IS IN HEAT NOW.

WE'RE TRYING TO DECIDE IF WE WANT TO BREED HER NOW, OR WAIT UNTIL SHE COMES BACK IN THE SPRING.

WHICH IS WHAT I WANT TO DO, BUT THAT WILL PUT US WITH TWO LITTERS ON THE GROUND AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME.

I'M HOPING THAT HE WILL DECIDE TO WAIT.

The folks in the know say it's opposite of what we think .... it's better on a female to breed every cycle and keep things working than to skip cycles .

hey people

i think it should all depend's on if she is throwing pups or not i mean it's a breeders responsibility to make sure that cooncogs are being put on the ground or not also depends if you have buyers for each pup or not make sure this is happening first then one litter a year is probably enough unless you have buyers

Breed the female one time, keep a few pups and hunt the fire out of them, they will be a year or more old before you know what you got, if you dont have any thing dont breed her again. That puts it about one and half years before the first and second breeding.

If the pups are way better than anything out there do this until she dies, if they are average, find another female.

Letting a female "heal" is what makes having pups the next time rougher .... their meant to have pups ...it's not an injury , there's no "healing" if all went well.

I agree thats what they are for.I do not breed mine every heat but have bred them back to back. Some say not to breed a female under a year old that they arent developed and arent mature enough to have pups and take care of them.I had a female start treeing at four month on a reguler bases I wanted some pups from her and didn't want to take a chance on something happening to her so i bred her at six mo.(first heat) and had no problen at all raiseing them and made some good ones.

Shes a good lookin gyp Christy. Gayle thats funny as heck
Its really none of my business but I'm a little more reserved about breeding. When I breed I breed for me and no one else. I wouldnt have any reason to breed back to back unless I know I have one top notch reproducing female. You may have other plans and your gyp may allready be proven breeding stock. LOL Id say Gayle is 100% right, I bout fell out of my chair laughing.

LEE...

SHE HAS BEEN BRED TO SETH AND SLUGGER BEFORE WITH SUPER RESULTS, AND AS MOST OF YOU KNOW THEY ARE BRED SIMILAR TO SID.

WE KNEW SID X SKEETER WOULD BE A GOOD CROSS, AND I TRULY THINK THIS CROSS WILL BE A NICE ONE AS WELL.

FOR MYSELF, I WOULD BREED HER THIS TIME .MAIN REASON BEING, THAT HER PUPS WOULD BE ON THE GROUND IN EARLY MARCH. THAT WOULD PUT THEM AT 7 MONTHS OLD COME SEASON AND READY FOR THEIR FUR LESSONS 101.

Christy,

Mother Nature has a neat way of doing things, in the wild when they come into season they get bred, no matter if it is every six months or once a year. No healing time needed, just let nature take her coarse. Remember if she wasn't healthy and healed up inside she probably wouldn't come in right any way.
