What is the dosage?

I wouldn't give it unless totally necessary before they are done.
I always give it after they are done having pups.

Dosage: 1cc, under the skin of the neck.

1 full CC is too much. If she stops having pups for an hour give her a 1/4 cc. Still no pup in a half hour another 1/4 cc. No pup half hour after that 1/2 cc. She should deliver at this point unless there are no more pups. This should be in the muscle also. Good luck. Dave

I have always used it the way I noted for over 15 years and never a problem. That is how a vet told me. It works.
I wouldn't give it to her if she hasn't had a pup in a half hour. It only worries me when it gets to 2 hours between pups. Also, if she hasn't had a pup at all, be very carefull about giving it to her. As you can ruptur her uterus if she is not dilated.

Would like to hear Long Ears opinion on it too.

Long Ears dispises the use of oxytocin just because it is there. I have seen too many coonhounds given oxytocin rupture the uterus. If this happens, you have a real mess. Trust me. The dose if it is truely needed is between 1/4 and 1cc given IV, SQ, Or IM. The method of injection is determined by the veterinarians preference. I prefer IM personally. I never recommend giving it before radiographs are done. If the bitch is having problems whelping, you can make matters even worse by giving this drug without knowing for sure she can pass the pups. If a bitch has had litters in succession, I sure would not use it. In these cases the bitches uterus can be way too friable to handle the extra stess of strong contractions caused by oxytocin. This drug is not to be trifled with. It can be very dangerous to the female. I hope this helps.

I've only known of two different kinds of people to take that stuff. Cancer patients or drug addicts. STRONG, STRONG, STRONG, STRONG STUFF.

It's always nice to get the facts from a vet. I only use it after the female is done having all her pups, to be sure she is cleaned out. I believe it also helps to bring down her milk.
You are right, it isn't a drug to just be used because you can.

Sheep you never fail to amaze me.

You know I had a friend whos Veterinary practice was broken into once and the only thing stolen was the oxytocin. I always wondered what it did to kids who thought they were getting oxycotin. lol I am sure not what they expected.

Thank's for the info.
Coonhunter's face lot's of different experiences, that's why I posted on here. I've talked to 2 vet's and had 2 different answer's.
7 pup's so far.

My B&T gyp just finished whelping a litter of 9. She had the first two about 6pm on the 21. She then had one about 6am on the 22, and another at 1am on the 23. Of the four, the first 3 were born dead, the 4th happy and healthy, with still more to come. I called the vet about 10 am today, because she had made no progress, and wasn't having any contractions. She told me to give her 3/4 cc of oxytocin sq. Within 45 minutes, she had two pups, happy and healthy, and by 6pm we had all of the remaining pups out, happy and healthy. We ended up with 5M and 1F. I'm not sure if they would have come aright without the oxytocin. Mother and pups are doing great.
