coonhunting wise tales

lets hear some of those wise tales!!! here's a few that i've picked up, a crushed up locus shell in the dogs food will make them tree harder, if the roof of a dogs mouth is black then it'll tree, hunting a female through her preagnacy will make the puppys be COONDOGS, urinating in a dogs water bowl will make them less skittish of you (that one might really work), this one has got to be the most outragous one of them all if the dogs rear end jumps in and out every time he barks he's gonna be a stay put tree dog!!!!!

If they have 3 whiskers on their face their good hounds. If they have coal black eyes they are wise. Pie pan ass holes are also tree dogs.
None of these theorys hold water lol I dont think

How about this one?

Winds out of the East, game stirs the least; winds out of the West, game stirs the best.

That's one I live by. I step out of the house to go hunting and check the wind direction. If it's out of an Eastern direction, I turn around and go back inside.

Also nights after extreme temperature changes.

They also done a study on lab mice. They took two groups of pregnant mice. One group stayed in a plain box during their pregnancy. The other group was worked in a maze where they were constantly having to learn and relearn the maze during their pregnancy.Their studies proved that the stimulated mice gave birth to young with thicker brain cortexes.
I think there could be some merit to that one.

To make a dog a better trail dog feed them the front feet of the coon. Don't feed the back feet as this will make them back track. I've also heard about the locust shells.

I've always heard that you can't tree a coon when winds out of the east, I proved that one wrong last weekend, 2 dumps, 2 coons.

If the eyes are black and the roof of their mouths are solid black - those pups will make good dogs!!!! That is one a old coonhunter once told me.

I have heard about walking around with bread under each arm for a while and then feeding it to a dog. This is supposed to make them know you better. I know I guy that trains dogs for people and he has done this for dogs that "won't hunt with anyone but me," and it has made the dogs go hunt with him and left the owners scratchin their head.
