Thanks for inquiring about Beau. At this time no pups are available. All pups are reserved from Scotts litter. He has a list started for the next litter. Numerous people have inquired about pups. I am starting a list. The stud fee varies some. He is a select sire. We are extremely happy with the results we got with his first couple of litters. Call me for details. Dan

What determines the PRICE?

You mentioned the price varies what determines the price of the stud from bitch to bitch?

ALOT I WOULD SAY...
IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE FEMALE I WOULD SAY , ALOT OF PEOPLE WILL NOT SET A PRICE ON THERE STUD FEE... THEY BASE IT OFF OF THE FEMALE , HER PEDIGREE , IF SHE HAS EARNED ANY DEGREES YET , HAS SHE THROWN ANY PROVEN PUPS YET , IT CAN DEPEND ON ALOT OF THINGS , BUT ALL BREEDERS ARE DIFFERENT , I HAVE SEEN BREEDERS AROUND HERE TURN DOWN GOOD MONEY ON BREEDING , JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LIKE WHAT THEY SAW IN THE FEMALE AND WOULD NOT BREED TO IT...
HOPE IT HELPS , SEE YA

hmm...

well if the stud owner doesn't like the female does it make him feel better to charge more. if its really a problem with the female why would he even stud to her? my thoughts, it would also depend who you are.... in all honestly, i just got done reading an article that mentioned how owners of stud dogs wish they could breed to the higher producer females and such... i could see a stud's owner be selective of who to breed to... but here we are saying if you have enough money you can breed whatever to him..

-Jack

actually dan i'd be interested to know what average stud fee is for beau....

X Dawg, Lets not blow this up to something it's NOT, I know Dan very well and I'm sure that is not what he meant. Example- When I breed my stud dog-a dual Grand is gonna be less than a un-proven registered dog, a dog with a great pedegree will be cheaper than a single registered "dog pound special",and my hunting buddy is gonna pay less than a total stranger......etc. I really don't see any harm in this. If I don't think the dog will produce I'm gonna charge alittle more for the simple fact that if I'm going to risk hurting my dogs reproducing average than I'm going to make something for it. See where I'm coming from ?

YEAH SCOTT , WHAT I SAID!!!
THIS IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO TELL XDAWG IN MY POST TO HIM...I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE SAID , IT IS WHAT THE FEMALE HAS TO OFFER THE STUD OWNER... IT ISN'T BECAUSE HE IS TRYING TO RIP ANYONE OFF , HE IS TRYING TO KEEP HIS STUD DOGS PERCENTAGE UP ON WHAT HE THROWS , JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A TOP STUD DOG IT STILL TAKES A GOOD PRODUCING FEMALE TO PRODUCE YOU A GOOD LITTER... I BELIEVE , FROM MY EXPERIENCE IN BREEDING , THE FEMALE IS THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTOR TO THE LITTER , BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION , AND ONLY THAT...
ALOT OF PEOPLE PICK STUD DOGS OFF OF WHAT THEY ARE WINNING , I PICK A STUD DOG OFF OF WHAT THEIR OFF-SPRING IS WINNING , I DON'T CARE WHAT ALL THAT STUD HAS WON OR EVEN IF HE IS DEGREED YET , YEAH IT IS NICE TO BREED TO A BIG WINNER , BUT IT IS ALL IN WHAT HE IS THROWING , AND I THINK THAT BEAU IS STARTING TO SHOW HE CAN THROW A HUNTING DOG... SEE YA

She looks really nice Jimmy. Hope to see her run. Send me a pedigree when you can. About stud fees... I am developing a breeding program of my own. Some litters I would like a pup and therefore may charge no stud fee. If you need a dollar figure because you insist on keeping all the pups then it would seem that $300 is fair. Probably about the same to have semen shipped. It is right to turn down or recomend a different stud to someone if you do not feel the breeding is suitable. Its all about improving the breed in both form and function. The buisness end of this pursuit is less important to me than the endeavor itself! Dan M

Here is the problem owning a stud dog. As soon as one dog is terrible it is the fault of the stud dog. That is why a lot of people don't always offer their dog at public stud or they offer it as "Stud fee negotiable". I am sure what Scott said just about hit the nail on the head. I don't charge my hunting buddies a dime for a dog or for a stud fee. That is part of being friends. I charge proven females less as I know that the reason they are proven is that the pups have done well in the events. The returns on breeding a proven reproducing female are greater than any stud fee. I do think that if a man is going to offer a dog at stud he should put a fee on it that won't be exceeded. Dan said $300 sounds fair and i think to breed to a two time National Champion $300 is fair. A person can pay good money to breed to a good young dog that seems to be producing well or they can breed to their neighbors dog for cheap. I say you get what you pay for. A Stud fee price has never bothered me. I figure if I breed to a stud that has a high stud fee there is a reason for that High price. The same reasons that will make my pups worth at least the same price as the stud fee. If I am breeding a proven top producer to the male then I will pay the man his fee and I will keep all of my pups and sell them and some of more than cover the fee. Dan is right. It is not about the money, to me it is about the satisfaction of seeing the pups do well.

Just my $0.02. It's his hound - he can charge whatever he likes - its really none of my (or your business) if he wants to charge different people different rates. $300 for breeding to hound of this quality is not only fair for beagles it is also extremely cheap when compared to any other dog breed on the planet that has accomplished the eqivelent awards.

If someone is in it for the money then beagles is the last breed they need to be in. You can sell little Yorkies for $700 - $1000 a pup. And that is not from any kind of champion - just a little cute dog that does nothing.

I just get frustrated when I see beaglers arguing over $ - beaglers are some of the cheapest people on God's green earth.
