11 month old pup wont tree any suggestions?
I have a 11 month old pup that wont tree I have showed him about 8-10 coons and he willl tree hard on the caged coons when I pull them up a tree but when i get him into the woods he will run and trail good but when he gets to tree he stops and goes to find another track even with a older dog he fights a coon real good I was hoping someone could give me some suggestions on how I could get him into treeing faster?
You showed him 7-9 too many coon IMO....1 or 2 coons is all they ever need to see...after they see one in a cage and run and tree it in the day light they goto the woods in the dark...
Probably has no idea he is supposed to tree by scent...he wants to see the coon now....no idea if/how you can correct the problem but it sounds like thats whats wrong...

go back to a drag with nothing to see at the tree,, give him sum beggin strips when he does tree,,, mine always did well till he got outsmarted a few times by a coon( swam down the crick once} and think he lost his confidence,, now hes back to tracking n treein really well,, might help you

don't do anything but hunt him alone 15 -20 times. if you have a feeder you can drop it near that. if it trees the coon, let it continue to tree for a couple of minutes before going to it. wait a minute or so longer each time. this may not progess linierly but erractly. be patient.

he just dont know they climb yet or he could be in kittens and cant
single 1 track out yet some of these old sows or worse than rutin coons.i would put it up couple weeks and start when cherries come on
easy coons.

Not treeing
Leave the caged coons alone!! If the pup has to see the coon you're defeating the purpose, if you have feeders hunt him alone on them, if not then hunt him with an older dog with good tree manners and most of all; Have some patience, if the pup is going to tree it will come to him, you're not going to make him a tree dog, at his age I wouldn't worry about it for a good while but the caged coons will cause way more damage than they do help.

CATCH LESS TREE MORE what I mean is I cant get over people that want to keep catching coons and showing them to dogs its like thats all you know how to do first off you have a PUP you shouldnt catch 100 coons and pull it up a tree 2 any dog you want to hunt all you are doin is making a treeing contest dog thats all it knows is SEE the coon BARK AT IT you need to make them use their NOSE and BRAINS from the start if I show my young dogs a caged coon I dont just walk them up to it or throw the coon in front of them I will drag the WET (yes I make it wet with a water hose first) coon across the yard OUT OF SIGHT of the dog and then rest it by a tree with a rope on it and then I will let the dog just run around the yard and investigate everything like a PUPPY should and if the smell interests it then it will do what it should if not then oh well its just not ready but most of the time the smell pulls them to the coon and when they find it thats when curiosity kicks them in th a$$ and I pull the cage up so the coon cant get the pup then if it seems to have the pups attention the next day tie the pup back turn the coon loose so it can watch the coon run away and then after a good headstart cut the pup loose then thats all they see until they put one up sometimes it all takes a while I walked the last one I started through the woods about 8-10 times then one night bang she hit a hot track and its been on since then cant get her to stop huntin now but this is what works for me Im sure some will not agree with my methods as I do not agree with some of the others but you can never know it all about dogs if you think you do then its time to quit cause you are fooling yourself and your dogs GOOD LUCK

He's only 11 months old ,hunt him alone and the biggest mistake people make with pups is they don't have any patience!!!!! It's going to happen or it's not that's the only two things that can happen and you haven't even said what his bloodlines is cause that might have a lot to do with your problem rite their !!!! The more you try to force pups most will go backwards or even get ruined! If it's in him it will come out it's just whether it will be with you owning him! Some take longer than others and generally your dogs that trail first and tree second make the better dogs and are more accurate!!!!!jmo

on a tree for it to pull the trigger or how much tree genes did it
get like i said i would put it up to cherries came on then you
tree multiple coons in a tree making even more scent on that tree.

If u can catch coon like that do it and wet em down turn em loose at night wait lil bit and cut him on some like that u know its red hot and if he hates a coon he will click one of these times it would prob be better if u could get the coon to the woods without haulin em in the same place as your dog lol but ya dont show em anymore cage coon he will come around before ya know it

not treeing
i'm like kody,but i like to dunk the coon in water then cut the coon in a field,or yard give it a 30yd head start,soon as the coon hits the woods cut the dog.the coon will climb,and there will be lots of scent!

This is the reason I only show pups a cage coon on the ground.. I take a cage coon pick at pups & then put coon n shop. Wait about a hour get ur fresh coonhide & pick at pup then make u a drag rub a tree good as high up as u can from ground up. Then roll hide up & put n a plastic bag in ur pocket turn pup loose this makes pups tree by nose... I never leave a hide hangin n a tree that teaches them to tree by sight... I have used this method for 17yrs & my grmpa showed me this & it will work.. if pup starts treeing by nose then u r better off. But I have noticed it usually takes a good breed pup till 10 months old to do this but if he can tree with this method he can tree real coons n the wood if pup comes across the right level track... I see & hear of people showing pups coonss hangin from trees & hides they leave hanging after they make a drag.. I think doing so has ruined a many pups or set them back. jmo
If u have a pup that age that will put his nose down tryin to find a coon or anything by themselves just keep on em he got enough in him to keep tryin all these pups treein their own so young are good for awhile but most hit real ruff spot and go backwards cuz guys push too hard anything he doin now is natural stuff suppose to be fun!
