I'm running a test.. I've had 1 dog on Native for some time now and the rest on Sportmix 26/18. I bought a bag of Diamond EA today to try on 1 dog so........,,,,,

1- On Native
1- On Diamond EA
3- On Sportmix 26/18 With Super Fuel
2- on Sportmix 26/18.

I'm lookin for muscle tone change, water dependency, stamina and over heating.

I've never used Diamond EA but really like the results of the Native and Sportmix. The Super Fuel works very good especially on pups that need a little extra.. Lets see how it works out over the next few months with the hot weather approachin..

Well I didn't steer you wrong on the super fuel and I feel the same about dea just don't give them much cause it will give them loose stools,you will be surprised at how little ea it will take to maintain your dogs this time of year and that's hunting them aswell!!!!

I feed the native level 4 and the dogs looked as good as the dea but my dogs didn't like it as much as they do the dea and I couldn't get the native anymore and the last 2 years dea has been my food of choice and until I see different I will stay with it!!!! Recall and all I'm sure other companies have had problems and never said a word about it jmo!!

I have tried this two diff times usually feed the diamond premium and both times my dogs stools were very light colored? Like yellow white in color? Not sure what to think and they didn seem to be huntin as well have fed native that was very good feed anybody else seen this with the DEA?

The Native is good feed but the DEA is as good and cheaper. One of the reasons for the test is to also see how the Native and DEA compete with each other. I stock Native III now at the store but if it has to be sold at MSRP I need to find something as good or better that is cost effective..

Potomac..The Super Fuel along with the Go Dog is a awesome combination !!

Dogs don't naturally eat corn , corn is chicken feed along with wheat and most of what is in cheap feeds ....


If you can't afford anything but the cheap stuff , just say so and really that's fine because they are just dogs after all .. the world has bigger problems than to worry about what a coondog is eating.

But , to argue with solid nutrition and the experience of top notch dogmen that the cheap stuff is just as good .... well , it's not even a real argument that would happen outside your own bubble.

Im currently on Native. Stacking Native and DEA together the only difference you will see is a small kcal difference and Native has more.
Heres the deal on feeding these type feeds. If you are hunting at least 5 nights a week the kcals in Native and DEA are needed to keep the hound in shape and weight on. If your hunting this hard the other feeds wont keep the hound up. My other quality feed is Pro Plan corn or not that feed works.
Sportsmix only holds up hunting a few nights a week, I was very displeased in its quality but they have very good sales tactics and alot of people are feeding it.
I remember when Black Gold came out and back then it was awsome feed. I dont know how it stacks today. Theres my feed spill.

ProPlan is good ... something about that corn gluten packs a punch.


I've just run through a bag or the top level of Enhance ... can't complain , stools are a little darker and tighter than on EA .

I will probably go back to EA because it's as good as any but more economical for me ... the Enhance , Taste of the Wild and ProPlan are a good bit higher without the results being proportionate to the extra price.

The main thing about food for me is ... does it swell up in water ? If so , that's what will happen inside the dog and have them hurting.

Do they digest enough that their stools are dark and small ? I aint spending good money just to wash it out a few hours later .

Do my dogs shake their head or does their coat suffer on it ?

In all seriousness. Im thinking hard on switching. I have saw it make a difference in heat during the summer and how they don't seem to get as hot! The feeding less part. I ain't saw that. Yall remember back in the mid 90s. The yellow bags of diamond maintenance? In those days. I was hunting 6 nights a week. Most every week. My dogs stayed in good shape. Now in the 2000s. I was a black gold feeder. Hunting dropped off to 4 or so nights. Dogs could go and go and go. Then it went to pot. Now Im feeding hunters special it ain't the cheapest but is ranked right down there with em. If a dog is kept in pretty good shape. It ain't gonna get to bad hot. I run mine on the 4 wheeler. I don't think any kind of foods gonna help one that don't get out none. They still gonna get hot regardless. I don't even know how much Im feeding but 1 red solo cup a day is it. I figure that's about 3 cups. Both hounds are about 55lbs. Not real muscled up though. Yall say these naturals will help on that?

I ran a simular test here at the kennels some 12-18 months ago. Used about everything under sun in terms of feed you can buy around here, inside a price range, Sportmix held up fairly well, however to maintain the dogs looks, one had to rotate between the 26-18 and 24-20 mixes. I like the feed, but it wasn't what we wanted. switched to the black gold, and saw very little if any difference in the 26-18 miixes. Showtime was way to much "clean-up" involved in feeding it. Them dogs could shoot through a mesh screen fence and never hit wire. Sunshine, believe it or not was good feed, but the place around here stopped carrying it.

The winner of the test by far was Purina ProPlan Performance. Dogs stay muscled up, lean and ready for whatever the hunt brings them. From observation, they appear to feel better on this feed. Yes it is more pricy than the rest of the above, although not that much more than the black gold, but worth it in terms of performance. I noticed and increase in stamina when I switched to performance. I also ran the white sheet test. put some pellets on a white cloth and see which one leaves the most grease after allowing to sit for a day or two. It will not be the Purina.

Long story shorten, Purina performance is just that. Performance enhancing fuel for your dog. To be truthful, i'd rather feed regular dog chow than a lot of other things i have tried.Nope, lesson is learned folks. If Purina is on the bag, the quality is inside.

I have always mixed eggs , meat and vitamins in my feed ... and I have started feeding every other day most of the time ... I think dogs systems aren't meant to be able to digest anything fully in a day ... at first they passed some real scary looking stuff that was hung up ... but now are passing fine and I think at least in the summer it is better , maybe not in the winter or for pups.
