Anyone running bobcats in the southeast

I'm interested in trying to turn a couple pups on to them and would like to talk with someone that may be educated on bobcat. Thanks and God bless.

Matt I live in central TN and we have many bobs. No one in my area hunts them with hounds. I dont think around me we can tree them consistantly enough to run bobs with hounds. To many caves, holes, high bluffs. Occasionally we will bush wack one with a hound at night but its not very common. Good Luck

We don't have the caves and high bluffs in south Alabama. Just lots of small blocks of land you can't get permission to look at much less cross with a hound. Might as well be caves and high bluffs. I ran one several years ago and man what a race and several trees. He wouldn't stay put at night for us to get close. I really would like to try it during the day light. Just wondering if free casting or cutting a track would be the best method.

My buddy and I caught one on the ground a few years ago at night. The track on the garmin looked like spagetti back and forth and back and forth for a couple hrs. They finally caught that rascal and one of the hounds got lucky and put a tush in the spine of that cat. We ended up putting it down.
When I am looking at the creeks for coon tracks I see just as many cat tracks as I do coon. I would hunt them if I could or new how during the day. Maybe someone cane come on here and teach us both how to.

I gave it a try last winter but we didnt get very good snow to be able to find tracks to put the dogs on. Hopefully this year will be a little better.

I hunt with some guys that have Bobcat/fox hounds, they way we do it is ride the dirt roads until we find where one walked the night before , then once we find where it walked into the woods they will turn some dogs loose to trail it up. Once they get it going they will cast more hounds to the race.

look for them in most common ground you can find with a good food source, they will move in and out areas depending on the food.

here are some pictures from some of our hunts and the ones my boys have killed.

cats

The Secret to treeing cats is Dog power and lots of it, they have to stay tight and make few mistakes, if a cat gets a lead on hounds he can do pretty much as he likes but if you have the dog power and they stay tight on him he will climb and stay... seen it done and had the power to do it with @ one time

I always heard he had the best bobcat pack around. Talked to him about it. He does not have any treeing walkers in his Bobcat pack. All of his bobcat dogs are running walkers.

He road hunts his dogs. Takes a couple of his best hounds puts them in front of the truck and drives. When they leave the road he gets out to turn the other dogs loose.

He said bobcats usually run like a rabbit, and they rarely if ever tree. The pack of hounds will catch them on the ground..

You defiantly have to have some heat to run a cat,we tree some and the hounds catch some. The make for some awesome races Around here if they get the chance They go to the low ground on the river and they usally get away.

If you can get one wet and then up on high ground he will be dog chow in short order.
