Need A Pic Of An HTX Dog !!

I'd like to run some HTX testimonials in the coming months in CB. If you have participated in an HTX event, please email me a short paragraph on what you think about the program and a nice clear photo of your dog. Dog does not need to have earned it's HTX certificate yet. Should be someone I haven't already featured in the column. This months deadline is Friday, lol.

You can email to tkellam@ukcdogs.com

Todd,

What's the average entries for these HTX tests over the last couple years? Our club has been thinking about having them, but it doesn't seem like very many are interested... I'd like to go back with some facts. Hopefully you guys have been collecting the data and reviewing it. Could you please share some of that with the clubs that are on the fence on whether or not to have them?

Thanks,
Joe

I would love our local clubs to have some HTX hunts. I can't find any closer then 2-3 hours from the house.

Where are you at?? There is a place called Willard about 20 minutes from me just outside Chavies. That should be less than an hour from Booneville unless there is another Willard in KY.

I think these clubs are going to have to view HTX as something other than a money making event. They prolly aren't ever going to bring in numbers that open a kitchen or pay the rent bill. Most clubs are non-profits. Not everything has to be about making money. Even a one dog HTX isn't going to cost a club any appreciable amount of money. Our club held 15 hunts a year for many years with the other two KC's that never cleared a dime. We had them because we wanted them. If one guy wants to put them on and 3 dogs showed up, we had us a coon hunt. We only dropped them after we could no longer even draw a 3 dog cast. But the point is, if you got one member that wants to handle the thing, put them on.

Here's my paragraph. I turned loose. Dog gone and gone and gone. Finally hear her waaaaay in yonder. She gets treed. It don't sound just right. To many locates. Get there and its a slick tree that fell across a big creek into another tree. Walk out. Find a busted up turkey nest. Coon Musta done it. So I know one had been there lol. We made about 50 dollars. That will pay our power bill for a couple months. Im sure we will have another.

i kinda like the HTX hunts. my walker female has passed 3 purty easy. I put her in 4, the one she failed she did tree a coon but the inspector said it looked like somekinda growth in the top of the tree. if he don't see eyes, he don't count it. I knew that before we left the club. i had hunted with him before and he couldn't see the coons till they were on the ground.

Thanks everyone! I had a great response to my request! Should be enough to last me for a while. If you sent pics and a testimonial watch the column and be patient.

In response to Joe's question...I really haven't figured an average entry but I would guess it's somewhere around 5 or 6 dogs. That's about what I figured they would be once the program was firmly established as they are mostly a club affair as JiM suggested. In this early going I thought they might draw a little better than that with not every club holding them. But still, I don't think we can / should compare them to nite hunt numbers. It was designed to reach a different segment of the coonhunting population. It does seem that that the people that are giving them a try are enjoying them so that's a good thing.

lol I bet this happens more than most ppl would expect I kinda expected it to turn out to be a lot harder than it sounded on paper I am sure it depends on time of year and where you wind up hunting

BUFFALORIVER YOU ARE CORRECT. I HAVE JUDGED A FEW AND ALSO JUST WALKED ALONG WHEN MY TIME WAS UP. I HAVE SEEN SOME GOOD COONDOGS NOT PASS. HUNTING CONDITIONS POOR, BAD NIGHT OR JUST A DARN SMART WELL RUN OLD COON. LOL. BUT WE ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD TIME. AND IT IS ALOT MORE RELAXING THAN A HUNT. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HUNT WITH FELLOWS AND DOGS THAT I NORMALLY WOULD NOT GET TO.
