Copperhead question

I have noticed in the last 3 or 4 years I have seen more copperheads in my back yard. My question is do they "den" up like other snakes?

I'm not a fan of them. Gonna talk to my vet about that rattlesnake vaccine, I had to many dogs get bit last year.

A friend of mine in MO has them come in around her house and kennel. She lives in the woods and the darn things will go under her porch and under the deck on her kennel. She says she can smell when they are around. A .410 works on them real well.

Just wondered if they did den. We'll have to find where it is and give them a reason to leave I wonder why they seem to be drawn to dogs??? Somebody told me they like cedar trees and I do have a few in my yard.

I heard copperheads are more like moccasins than rattlers so check with the vet. Copperheads do dogs about like a beesting here. It's Diamond backs and Cane Breaks we watch out for.
I think they den up too.

I usually don't take them for copperheads either, had one get bit last year by the biggest copperhead I've ever seen, she was bit several times and was bleeding so took her to make sure she didn't get an infection. I just don't want to deal with them like last year...........way to many I figured it was the drought but maybe they just like my yard!!!

How did you know it? You must have smelt it frying. They are hard to see in leaves. He didn't even make a dash?

All snakes gotta den up in cold weather ... but I never heard of copperheads denning up in numbers like a rattlesnake will ... it's kind of a fuzzy question.

I always heard a Pilot's legs would pop out when you do that. Did they?

Pilot= local name for copperhead. Short name for rattlesnake Pilot.

if you have one then you got two copper heads are all most always in pairs for some reason and they stink of a musky odor and i have never taken a dog to the vet for a copper head bit just use some pen. for about a week.
