Dan's pic brings up an interesting question. What's the longest you've ever had a dog stay treed before you could get to them? If you lost the dog and then found it treed, you have no way of knowing how long they were treed for. But what about a situation where you know when they got treed and couldn't get them for one reason or another?

I guess the longest for me is only a couple hours when we had to go home and get a boat to get out to an island they were treed on. Not much of a story but I bet there are some good stories out there on this topic.

THAT PIC WAS TAKIN AT 9:00 AM AND MY BROTHER LIVED BOUT A QUARTER MILE FROM WHERE SHE WAS AND WHEN HE GOT HOME FROM THE BAR AT 3:00 HE HEARD HER TREED AND WHEN HE WOKE UP AT 8:30 AND SHE WAS STILL THERE HE CALLED ME....SO HOW LONG SHE ACTUALLY WAS THERE BARKIN I HAVE NO IDEA BUT SHE WAS AT THE TREE FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS FOR SURE.....

My old female, Hannah was being hunted in the big woods of the Kinzua area of Pa. This area is huge !!! She got off into a side hollow somewhere and treed. She could be heard from one area but once you moved she couldn't be located. This went on for 3 days.... Finally a lumberjack located her, shot down the coon and brought her out. I can't say she barked 80 bpm constantly for 3 days but it certainly was for most of the time .. The whole area was torn up bare according to the lumberjack... She was a once in a lifetime cooner... run a coon faster than some could run deer, and tree like crazy...

I HAVE LOST MY DOGS EARLY IN THE NIGHT, FOUND THEM AROUND 11 OR 12PM COULDNT GET TO THEM, WAITED TILL MORNING, STILL TREEING, 6 P.M. THE NEXT NIGHT WHEN I YELLED THEY STARTED TO TREE AGAIN, IT FROZE OVER ENOUGH THAT NIGHT AND DAY THAT I COULD WALK ACROSS THE SNOW DRIFTED RIDGE TOP AND GET THEM AND THE COON. THINK THEY WOULD HAVE DIED IF I LEFT THEM. I THINK IT WAS NEAR ZERO THAT NIGHT ALSO WHEN I LOST THEM, GOTTA LOVE A STAY PUT TREE DOG, BUT AT I TIMES I COULD KILL THEM!!!

I myself, 5 hours 15 minutes. Sold a pup to a guy that said she treed 14 hours. Mr. Taylor of Utah said he had this strain tree up to a couple days before he got into them.

We were hunting a creek across from my house and 2 dogs treed in a tree that was angled. They climbed about halfway and we couldnt find a coon. The tree was surrounded by thick groath and briars. Being slick, so we thought, we left them there and went to sleep at 9 0r 10. e woke up at around 6 or 7 and they were still treeded. We saw the coon in the daylight(lol we shot that one to em summer or not)

My friends lost their dog one evening about midnight.
They got a call next day from a woman that said the dog had been barking behind her house all day. She finally went out and got the dog about 4:30 and found the number on the collar.
The dog was treed but the woman didn't know what that was. She thought the dog was sick or crazy.

does bear in a hole count. 2 days plus in a tree id say 12 hours.. for a bear... and 6-7 hours for a coon.. bear trys to come down as they leave i think same dog will tree lot longer on a bear.. when it was hot in summer ive seen where dogs had a path from tree to water.. take turns going for water. who says hounds are dumb.. pete

had a female red dawg that I took out one night late around 10:30 she wouldn't come in as I called and called her until about 12:00 when I heard her strick real deep. I said I'm not going after her she's at home and will come home the next morning she was not at the house so I went and looked her. Got the tracker out and found her real deep from where I had heard her the night before. Went in and got her off a small pine at 6:20 and she had the meat but didn't take the gun with me.

I had an old Spring Creek Rock bred male that stayed for over 8 hours one time. Got a cross the river and it took us up into the next morning to get to him. FYI he had a possum. lol

this hound will stay treed i know for a week dancer treed sat. and sunday morning a week later, i got my friend shane flaminio after he had hunted all night on the river. he had a boat my leg being in shap it was i could not make the trip to the tree ,i did run the motor, after getting as close as we could. some three hours shane got back with dancer on leashe with dallas morris young walker female,and george w.following him,the female was later shot and george w. was killed by gator.at seven months,geoge w.would do it all.when he was killed he split treed from dancer and half brother.shanes number 803-316-6922 dallas number 803-495-3272. dancer now seven will tree anywhere on earth. you coonhunters with good english females don,t wait he,s here and we hunt every night.don,t forget take child hunting.jerry lee 803-478-7056 or email postedlandkennel@yahoo.com

Hunting biggame is different then coon of course but have been around dogs that were treed for couple days. Generally its a trackdown with your tracking box, hollar down the canyon once your close and they will fire up again, its no 100 bpm, maybe couple barks every 10 mins, but they are there. Its real hard on them though to stay treed barking for hrs on end, constant jarring on there diaphram and internal organs such as kidney, I see alot of dogs if treed real long like that will pass blood in there urine for a day or so . I don't like those type of dogs though, I want mine to come back on out if I can't get to them, not stay holed up in some canyon treed for days. If a dog can give me 4-5 hrs on a tree thats all I ask for, if it takes you 4-5 hrs to get to them, its going to take you that to get back out, often slower coming back out if you have to lead your dogs. Thats 8-10 hrs, in and out, thats pretty much all the daylight you will get in the winter hunting cat, nothing more then I hate getting caught in the dark on the side of the mnt in the winter and having to spend the nite out under a tree.

I had a 9 year female tree a little over 9 hrs straight. No breaks no nada. She was on the side of a mountain and the North Toe river was between us. I thought I was going to get shot trying to get to her. Waited till daylight and went to the house. Got permission to go get her.

So my will tree ALL nite long if they can't hear and about 5 minutes if they can hear me.

my dog named axe at 8 months old was treed one night from 10 pm until we got to them at 6:15 am. he just started leaving the tree after being treed for 8 hours. i thought it was pretty good for a pup... gary woods

longest we ever had any treed was 5 hours - well not "we" - i wasn't out that night, but dwayne had True (now retired) and some friends dogs, and they treed up deep in a swamp and it took them all night and coming at it from several angles til they could finally get to them. The dogs were hoarse but still going at it!

The female I am hunting now treed for a little over three hours by herself the fourteenth night she was in the woods. The river was froze a little, enough for her to cross, but not enough for me, and I just had to wait her out.

My old Belle female was easily an all night tree dog, treed sitting down, barking about 40 long shops a minute, just like a clock ticking...man I miss her. She was the most accurate and longest tree dog I ever owned.

When I was a kid I had a coonhound X beagle cross that I used for a squirrel dog. We never tied her up or anything, and lived in the country. I remember hearing her barking at around 7 o'clock that night, but didn't think much about it. That morning when I got up she was treeing a little way off from the house. I took her off the tree several times, and brought her home only to have her go back and tree some more. It wasn't coon season, and I was too scared to shoot the coon out of season then. Finally my Grandpa came to visit, and he shot the coon out at 4 o'clock that afternoon with her still treed on it. I don't know exactly what time she got treed on it, but it had to be around 7 or 8 when I heard her bark, that is the area she was in, and she never opened on track in her life. So it had to be 20 hours or better.

Well I "heard " of a dog staying on an island and not coming off for 3 days..........when my buddy got there ,,,,,he shot the coon out and got the dog!ttttttttttttttrue story!!!!

14-15 hrs (if my math is right)

Left him one school night while hunting around the house. He wound up treed as we were getting back to the house, we had to go to school so he was left in the woods treed. Sometime around midnight.
Could hear him when waiting for schoolbus the next morning still treed.
Got off the bus and he was still treed so my brother went to him and shot out the coon around 4pm.


He was an ol' crossbred dog of unknown origin we had when I was a kid. He was mostly redbone, probably with a touch of cur thrown in. Whatever the mix, he was ALL treedog. Still a measuring stick for me.

For me personally about 4 1/2 hrs from an english gyp I had a couple years ago. That was the last night I hunted that area. Where I generally hunt now when they tree I can usually get to them in 30 minutes or less.

Where did I read about the dog mummified in the tree? I could have seen it on TV one night I dont remember. But I'd have to say that he/she has to be the record holder and stuck with it and was a TRUE TREEDOG to the end. Not real sure but it seems like it was estimated to have died 30+ yrs ago but the hollow tree preserved it. I know someone else has read or heard of it...if so, jog my memory, please.

My Barney dog stayed treed for 37 nights and 36 days straight one time and never missed over 2 barks. Me and my friend Bill listened to him on and off. He was very thin when we finally got to him. He is at stud if you want stayput treedogs.

redman i came close to holding that record.. ...dog climbed up and fell down into hollow tree. i could hear her but couldnt find her. i thought she was barking in a hole and almost gave up. tree was rotten and was able to smash one side in to get her out... im sure if id have left i would have never found her. pete

I read it to be about 20 + years

Many animals have been mummified, but few have a mummy tale as unique as the hound dog of Waycross, Georgia.
He (or she--now there's no way to tell) was a four-year-old hunting dog in the 1960s. Accompanying its master on a hunt, it ran off to chase a squirrel or a raccoon. The critter must have scrambled into a hollow chestnut oak tree, because the bog did the same. Only the hound dog could not get out. It was wedged in the tree so tightly that it couldn't move. It died.

Rather than decaying, the dog became a natural mummy due to the conditions of its "coffin." First, all scent of the dead dog went up the inside of the tree like a chimney. Predators and insects never got wind of the hound dog. Second, the dog's body was well protected (and well-ventilated) in the hollow trunk. Finally, resins from the core of the tree may have helped in the dog's preservation.

Sometime in the 1980s, loggers were cutting trees in the forest. Without knowing it, they cut down the dog's tree and placed it on a logging truck. Then they looked inside and saw the mummified dog. Rather than send him to the sawmill, the loggers donated the bog and its tree coffin to the Southern Forest World Museum in Waycross.

My NT.CH Dans MT. Train dog was turned loose at around 7:00. After not hearing him I put the tracker on him and could tell he was treed but tried all night to find him with no luck. After daylight I realized I had been chasing a signal bounce all night. once I figured out what was going on I got to him at 10:00 the next morning and found him on a big den.He was pretty much barked out but was still there. Where I hunt it is very ruff I need for them to stat till I get there.Train knows I'll be coming He'll tree till I get there.
