how young of a pup

whats your guys youngest pup that started barking and standing on a tree to a live coon mine was a red bone pup she was10 weeks old she would put her paws on the tree the cage coon she was howling a little puppy howl and she showed no fear to that coon when it snarled at her but few weeks latter she was hit by a car.

dont matter the breed as long as it tracks and trees coon its the dog for me!

Oldsmobile63,

I seldom use a cage coon any more. Especially today, many breeds have enough tree that cage coon is actually more detrimental than a positive experience.

cage coon

well i still do it seems to work out fine for young dogs and there is plenty of other houndsman that still do

i dont show em a coon of any type till they are showing signs of being ready....


they run free as much as possible...once they start treeing squirrels or barn cats it is time to keep them put up most of the time and time to start them....show them a caged coon and let it go and let them tree it..if they do a nice job i knock the coon down for them...then its off to the woods at nite to find a hot track...if they are ready, thats usually all it takes...
