Are there certain qualities/characteristics associated with the different strains of redbones? For example, Timber Chopper dogs tend to have a black muzzle. I'm curious to hear what you redboners think about the lines out there today: fireball, yellow river, outlaw, there's so many I couldn't possibly name them all. Keep in mind, I understand that there are a lot of overlapping of strains, but in general, describe what you would expect to see when someone tells you they have a fireball bred dog, etc. I'm not just talking about looks but ability too. XYZ bred dogs are leggy with cold noses and long ears. ABC dogs are built like cement blocks, hot nosed, and easy going.

SamIam,about the only thing I can say is some of them will be some color of red with the same amount of spots on each side.LOL.
I will comment on the Timber Chopper line having black muzzels.The line of Timber Chopper breeding in my hounds do not have black muzzels.I had one recently that went back to Timber Chopper 23 times in six generations and she had no black muzzel,my current female goes back to Timber Chopper 14 times in six generations and has no black muzzel.The man I got mine from has no black muzzels in his line.I do know that some lines from Timber Chopper breedings do have black muzzels but then so do lots of other lines.The line of dogs we hunt have the nose power to RUN a cold track and put a tree on the end of it.If it's a real cold track they will drift on it until they get it a little fresher.For the most part they are hard tree dogs and hold pressure on the tree pretty danged good,they will pull in certain cases but for the most part stay hooked and are a little above average on accuracy but on occasion they will slick tree.They are easy on the eyes of the beholder,if that matters to some.I have hunted lots of different lines of Redbones and am a firm believer that you can find something to suit you in nearly every line out there if you look hard enough and if traced back for enough most but not all will go back to Timber Chopper somewhere back there LOL.

Thanks Pappy for your response. I was hoping to get something going that would help people find what they're looking for in a hound. I've seen the walker people posts comments like,"if you need some track power, try adding a little xyz blood." I thought this post would get something started for the redbone folks. I have a young TC bred hound that I'm very pleased with so far. He sounds like he shares some of the traits you described in your hounds. I wish my red dog gave a little more mouth on track but he makes me forget about that with his accuracy. I despise a slick treeing dog.

Did you by chance get your hound from Chesterfield VA off of River Road? Just wondering because I was thinking of putting a deposit on a future pup of his.......his web site says theres a waiting list (www.Timberchopper.com. I like the looks of a black muzzle myself.

Yes, I did get my pup from TimberChopper kennels in Virginia. My pup is out of Bo and Jessie (their first cross, a little over a year and a half ago). This has been my first attempt at raising/training a pup. I haven't had an older dog to train him with, so he's had to do it on his on. I drug a coon tail at four months old and he treed it. He then graduated to running and treeing caught and released coons. At eleven months old, he treed his first coon in the wild. At this point, I decided to bait up a couple of spots to give him some confidence. I've tried to hold back and let him learn at his pace, not mine. So, I've been hunting him between one and two times/week. If you want to PM me, I'll be glad to tell you about my experience with Wayne and this pup. I'm really curious to hear about how pups are doing out of his Dan hound.

The prettiest hound I have ever seen was Timberchopper bred the cross was timberchopper chief x Timberchopper Annie . One heck of a coon dog as well in fact since that dog I've had Timberchopper ever since Wayne Campbell will go out of his way to help you. he puts alot of work into those dogs.
